“I'm so sorry,” Violet apologizes.

“Don’t be silly. I’m jet-lagged. I won’t remember tomorrow.”

Eva winks at me. “So you found your person, huh?” Then she hugs me, too.

“Yeah. But what do we do?” I whisper in her ear so no one else can hear.

“Take it one day at a time, Linc. It will all work out,” she reassures me.

My father finally gets his turn. “Christ, I’ve missed you so much.” His eyes become glazed, then he wraps me in a tight, fierce bear hug. He’s a big soft-hearted fool, just like my grandfather.

I choke up and pat his back. “Me too,” is all I can say.

He leans out of our embrace and clasps either side of my face. “She’s beautiful.”

“I know.” I look over at Violet, who is now crouched down, deep in a conversation with Hamish and Archie about Pom-pom. Poor dog won’t know what's hit him these next two weeks. Those boys already think he’s a toy.

Fraser makes his way over to me. “Alright, chili dick?”

I knew I couldn’t trust my friends to keep that a secret. “You’ve been speaking to Owen and Jacob, then?” I reach out and shake his hand. “Uncle Fraser.”

“Don’t fucking call me that, nephew.” He folds his bulging arms in front of him. “Whooped both their asses on the golf course last week.”

I’ve missed these guys.

Fraser’s eyes glint with amusement. “So you went for a strong, confident, outspoken woman, then? Because we don’t have enough feisty females in this family already.”

“He’s a glutton for punishment.” My dad punches the top of my arm.

I am where my heart is concerned.

I hope I’m not setting us up for a fall somehow.

No matter what happens between me and Violet, I’m sure a swift kick to the nuts would be less painful than the thought of leaving her in two weeks’ time.

Fourteen days.

CHAPTER 22

Violet

After our wonderful dinner downstairs in the hotel restaurant, we’re now having evening drinks on the rooftop patio of the presidential suite at The Blue View.

Lincoln’s father has booked the whole top floor for the family for two weeks.

When Lincoln showed me around the place, I may have dropped more than a few wows and I’m pretty sure at one point Lincoln had to lift my jaw off the marble floor when I walked into the bathroom. It’s almost the same size as the whole bottom floor of my house, with a gold sunken bathtub perfectly positioned in front of a floor-to-ceiling window that looks out over the entire city. It’s the ultimate relaxation experience.

Knox is a great dad, very understated and much quieter than I imagined him to be, but he puts family before everything and clearly loves this extraordinary clan I’m currently sitting among. I feel honored.

I’ve had many jabs thrown my way about my earlier drama queen ‘Are you Mrs. Black? I've been sleeping with your husband’ moment. I can laugh about it now, but I have never been so embarrassed.

“I’ve had such a lovely evening.” I sigh, cross my legs, and rest my back against the enormous semicircle outdoor sofa. I stare at the stunning view across my hometown and take a sip of my crisp white wine.

“Me too.” Lincoln lays his hands on my bare thigh.

I like that I didn’t have to go back to my house to change or put makeup on. This family is all about keeping it real and being natural around each other.

I really like them.
