“And that.” He points to the photo of Pom-pom on top of my rainbow organizer. “Must be yours.”

I glance at the photo of my fluffy, white friend. “He is.”

“He’s cute. He has a feather duster for a tail. You could clean the house with him.”

“Mischievous.”

“What’s his name?”

“Pom-pom.”

“Makes sense. He looks like a ball of cotton wool.”

“Not when he’s wet.” I snort in an unladylike manner at the vision of Pom-pom’s scrawny frame underneath all of his fur.

Lincoln grabs his black backpack off the floor that fell off his shoulder when we collided, then stalks toward me with intention. “I look forward to seeing you when you’re wet, Violet.” His deep voice vibrates down my spine. “You know when you work up a sweat in here, when we are working together.”

He didn’t mean that.

I pull in a breath as he walks past me and leaves a gust of zesty-scented cool air as he does.

“Still want to do this? Me working for you?” he asks confidently from behind me.

No. I don’t.

I don’t dare turn my head to look at him. “Yes. It’s just work.” I squeeze my eyes shut. “Five weeks. It will fly by.” I sound less than convincing.

Spending five weeks with that piece of eye candy. I hope it drags.

As if reading my thoughts, he says, “I wish it was longer.”

What the hell am I doing keeping him on? This was a terrible plan.

“See you tomorrow, Violet.”

The door clicks shut behind me and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.

What have I done?

Stupid, stupid Violet. Just stupid.

I let out a long groan.

This is going to be the longest five weeks of my life.

Spent with Lincoln.

A handsome player if ever I saw one.

However, it might not be so bad after all. A bit of harmless flirting. I mean, it’s been a very long time since I was attracted to anyone.

What harm could it do?

I’m lost.
