And the biggest one of all, changing my job.

My dad and I sat down and had a huge heart-to-heart. He understood where I was coming from. He knew I needed a fresh new challenge, so he helped me find one.

And as for Viva?

She is no longer in my father’s life. Thankfully.

He visited her the day after Lincoln’s family left, but he said she wasn’t exactly forthcoming and she knew they were over.

While my father may be slightly absent from my life a lot of the time, he’s never left me or not cared about me, and the way Viva spoke to Lincoln, my father simply couldn’t get over it. My father has a heart.

Something Viva is clearly missing.

And guess what? My father has already moved on to somebody else, girlfriend number eight.

I’m yet to meet her but I’m pretty sure she’ll be the one.

Hannah and Ruby have been so supportive and have checked in with me every day, especially on the days I couldn’t get out of bed when my heart was breaking.

It’s also those two sistas from other mistas that encouraged me to chase my dreams, too. So that’s what I am doing.

I’ve missed Lincoln every minute and every hour.

I’ve longed to reach out to him but I haven’t because I have a new life plan.

“C’mon then, little fluff ball, let’s go start our new adventure.”

I take a deep breath in.

I hope I’m doing the right thing.

Lincoln

“Afternoon.” I yawn. It’s been three nights since I visited my yaya and still sleep evades me.

My head is reeling.

I keep seeing flashes of purple everywhere. From the fresh flowers in reception this morning to the tie my father is currently wearing.

It’s just a color, Linc. It doesn’t mean anything.

I swear I’m losing my mind.

“Still not sleeping?” my dad asks as I amble into his office.

“Nope.” I sit down on his black leather sofa and close my eyes.

A familiar scent assaults my nose.

“Well, you had better pull yourself together because we have a staff meeting at four this afternoon. All of the management team will be in the ballroom in an hour.”

“Do we?” I pop one eye open.

“Yes. Did you not see the email I sent last night?” He leans against his desk and crosses his legs at his ankles. “You are a complete shit show.”

He’s right and I’ve mentally checked out. My dad was supportive at first when I returned to work, but he’s losing his patience with me.
