Flying thousands of miles to be with him seems like it was a completely stupid idea. I’m so happy I took the leap and the job is incredible, but Lincoln looks so broken and tired. He looks lost. When I caught him checking me out earlier in the corridor, I could almost see his brain misfiring. He wants to be with me—I know he does deep down—but he struggling with his decision he made when he left Santa Monica, knowing he hurt both of us, and he can’t quite believe I am here. He’s having a hard time accepting I would do that for him and he’s at war with himself to take the leap in my direction again.

Maybe Knox’s plans are not going to pay off after all.

And even after Lincoln kissed my neck this morning, he’s still keeping his distance. He’s avoided me all day. If he’s not, it sure seems like he is.

I pull out my phone and text Hannah and Ruby.

Me: Please tell me I did the right thing.

Hannah: You did. You are going after what you want.

Ruby: Why? What’s up, baby girl?

Me: I have my doubts. I might be home sooner than planned.

Hannah: There is no way that is happening.

Ruby: Give him time to adjust.

Hannah: Call us later and we can cheer you up.

Me: It will be the middle of the night.

Hannah: We don’t care.

Ruby: You know me, I’m always up!

Hannah: It will work out.

Ruby: And remember we love you and so does Lincoln.

I hope that’s still true.

It’s been four long days of learning, Lincoln avoiding me, car hunting, and I’m still yet to figure out what these Scottish people are saying half the time. They talk so fast sometimes, and I’ve had to ask a few of my staff members to slow down.

Once they do, it’s great but I kid you not, they sound like they're singing when they talk.

Do they come with a handbook?

I’ve met several of the girls from America; they are here on a hotel exchange program the hotel has a partnership with, so that’s been wonderful, and I’ve also met a couple of local girls who are around my age too who said they would love to take me for a night out. Apparently, there is only one nightclub in town, The Vault, and next weekend is Ladies’ Night. Sounds like fun.

I stare out into the night sky. My hands clasped together like I’m praying beneath my cheek.

He didn’t come to bed with me again tonight. His bed.

Instead, he’s currently sleeping in the room across the hall. Again.

This might all have been a big mistake.

Moving to Scotland was an easy but huge decision for me. Knox and I sat down for several hours, and then he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. It made sense.

Now I’m not so sure.

Lincoln doesn’t exactly seem all that happy to see me either.

I’m guessing if someone moved into my house uninvited, I would feel the same. A smirk pulls my lips, remembering his look of horror as I entered his hallway with Pom-pom.
