Although Violet has certainly got the blood whizzing through my veins and other areas again.

After I left the gym yesterday, I may have spent way too much time Googling Violet West and I discovered a few things about her.

One, she’s thirty-two years old and a savvy businesswoman who is very well respected within the business world. She is also the most sought-after operations manager in the state, but she won’t move from her father’s business, despite the dozens of offers she receives every year. I’m guessing she feels some sort of loyalty toward her father, so she stays. Two, she supports a local children's charity for fostered children. Three, she has thousands of friends and followers on social media. Four, in every photo of her, she’s smiling, laughing, and having fun.

Her eyes sparkle through every camera lens she looks into. She’s naturally captivating, and I want to know everything about her.

I want her to look at me like that. However, I’m certain she was flirting with me yesterday before the whole falling on her ass debacle. She turned shy on me in an instant, embarrassed for making a fool of herself in front of a stranger. Christ, I would too if I had flashed my dick to someone I didn’t know. However, I have been known, on the odd occasion, to join in the local tradition of flashing while wearing a kilt. After a few drinks, you stop caring, but I felt sorry for Violet yesterday. She blushed deeper than a soft berry fruit. When wearing a kilt, it’s a choice to flash. That choice was taken from Violet yesterday and I’m relieved I was the only one left in the room when she fell over.

Sifting through dozens of photos of her, with lots of beautiful men and women, at galas, dinners, nights out, I concluded she didn’t appear to have a man in her life.

I don’t know why I feel some sort of satisfaction with that piece of information.

Having read her many online interviews, she appears to be too busy to have any kind of relationship and implied she was married to her job.

I couldn’t help but laugh at that statement. We are a lot alike. I vividly remember spending one Christmas night with my staff spreadsheet.

C’mon, give me a break. I love a good spreadsheet.

I’m also happily married to my job, but I would love nothing more than to have someone to share my life with.

My mates Jacob and Owen both have steady girlfriends, but here’s me on the other side of the world, single, traveling at twenty-nine, and I’m no further forward in my love life.

My father is a hopeless romantic and truly believes that we all have a person.

I’ve never been lucky enough to find mine.

In fact, I’ve never been in love.

That makes me sound like a pathetic fool. And I can tell my father feels sorry for me, too.

Loveless Lincoln.

Although finding love in my tiny town of Castleview Cove feels like a fight I’ll never win.

No more heavy thoughts, Lincoln.

I round the corner of the street I should have been in fifteen minutes ago.

I’m never late for anything. I’m annoyed at myself for messing up the zip code as I maneuver my car into the Turn Key parking lot, swiftly park, and jump out.

I’m grateful the helpful receptionist within the chic white glass-walled building escorts me directly to the meeting room where my fellow teammates are seated, announcing me as we walk through the door.

All eyes on me, everyone turns to greet me with a joyful wave and a quiet hello. I mouth a sorry and roll my eyes at Rio as I take one of the seats that are laid out in a semicircle shape.

“Glad you can join us.” Violet looks at me, then shyly dips her gaze. She’s definitely embarrassed about yesterday’s incident.

“Sorry. I’m still trying to find my bearings around here. I’m not familiar with this part of the city. It won’t happen again.” I’m apologetic. My father always taught me to be polite and kind. Admit when I’ve messed up and never answer back to those that sign your paycheck. Violet is currently signing mine, for now.

“Ah, that accent is not local, I hear.” A tall, thin-as-a-drainpipe, gray-haired gentleman standing in the middle of the semicircle gives me a welcoming grin.

“Scottish,” I confirm.

“Beautiful part of the world. I’ve been once. It stole a little piece of my heart. I would love to go back.” He claps his hands together, then rubs them. “You haven’t missed anything, eh…” He lays his hand out flat and I figure he wants my name.

“It’s Lincoln. Most people call me Linc.”

“Great, well, Linc, we were discussing the day ahead, but I have already partnered everyone up, which leaves you with Violet.” He smiles across at Violet. “Violet usually works the room to get to know each of you, but we have an odd number of people today.” He turns to Violet. “You might enjoy partner work today, Letty.”
