“Do you trust me?”

“Um.”

“Not even after our truth and lies game?”

“I do. It’s… I…”

“I would never let anything happen to you. I’ve done this before.” Lincoln holds out his hand. “Trust me. Do this with me.”

Oh, no, no, no, no. “I can’t. I’m too scared. What if I splat all over the grass and then those poor people will see my ass go through my face and that’s only the tip of the nightmares that will live in their brains forever? Those poor people will need therapy. For life! And it’s so high and what happens if I get to the top and I can’t jump, and, and, and…”

Before I know what’s happened, Lincoln’s cupped my face. “Breathe, Violet, breathe.”

His hands calm me. He slides my sunglasses on top of my head, then gently dusts my cheek with his thumb. “In and out. Deep breaths,” he pulls me back from the brink of my mini meltdown.

I copy him for what feels like hours, breathing in and out, over and over slowly.

“That’s it, Violet. You okay?”

My heart slows down in my heavy chest.

“Yeah.” I stare into his dark orbs. “I like your eye color too.” I admit.

“Oh, do you now?” He nods with a smirk.

I take a step back.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.” We are at a staff event. I must have had a lobotomy over the last twenty-four hours I wasn’t aware of.

“Violet.” Lincoln urges me to look his way.

“Come with me. Up there.” He points to the sky. “Face your fear. Don’t do it for me. Do this for yourself. What you’ve created in your brain is false fear. You’ve made up a whole story in your head, but what you’ve failed to grasp or understand is the sheer excitement, exhilaration, and sense of achievement that taking a leap of faith will give you. It’s a buzz I can’t describe, but you’ll feel it everywhere. Trust me?”

I fiddle with my fingers, rubbing my palms together.

“It’s okay to admit you're scared and show your vulnerability in front of everyone, Violet. That’s what today has been about, to build trust between us and then have faith in me to help you get to the top of that pole, jump off, and scream your head off. It will be the best thing you ever do and you’ll be telling everyone about it for years to come. I promise.” Lincoln holds out his pinky for me to take.

He wants to make a pinky promise with me; that’s cute.

I chew my lip. “You’ll watch out for me?”

“Hundred percent I will.” He keeps his pinky finger up in the air.

“And you won’t let me fall?”

“Never.” He shakes his head, making his dark locks flop onto his forehead.

With a thousand doubts flying through my mind, I grab his pinky with mine before I change my mind. Squeezing my pinky, he pulls me closer to his chest.

He looks down at me. I love a tall man. “Good girl.” He winks.

Those two simple words send a rush of arousal into my pussy; my panties will be soaked by the end of the day. He’s so sexy and distracting. Plus, I can feel every hard part of him pressed against me.

I’ve definitely had a lobotomy while I’ve been sleeping; otherwise, there is no way in hell I would agree to climbing the death trap to the side of us.

“Let’s do this, Violet.”

“My thighs will never go through the harness loops. Will it take my weight?” I blurt.
