“I am beautiful,” I whisper, gripping on to him.

“You are. I meant everything I said. Every. Single. Word. My father always taught me to be truthful. I wouldn’t lie to you. I want to take you out on a date. You are beautiful and fucking brave as shit. We’re at the top of the pole. You made it.” He pulls me closer.

“Everyone will be watching below. You are cuddling me.” My heart picks up a faster tempo.

“We have to. There is no space.”

I can’t believe I made it to the top. “We made it.”

“You made it, Violet. You did it.”

“Only because of you,” I whisper, holding on to him for dear life.

“Nope, because of you. You did this yourself.”

“I made it.” I feel such a sense of achievement.

“You did. Now, are you ready to take a leap of faith with me?” He looks me dead in the eyes as the warm air swirls around us.

Is he asking for me to jump onto the swing or into the unknown with him?

“Both, Violet. Are you ready?”

How embarrassing, I said that out loud.

“No!” My shout gets lost in the wind because faster than the speed of light, he grips on to me tighter, raises his hand in the air, and jumps us both sideways off the tiny pole like he’s freaking Batman. I catch a glimpse of his arm reaching out to grab the trapeze.

I scream at his moment of insanity, and a sudden jolt makes me wince. I look up and find Lincoln has one hand gripping around the pole above while his other is still wrapped around my waist.

“I’ve got you, Violet.”

I pant heavily in and out. “You’re so strong.” I laugh nervously and realize I’m holding on to Lincoln like a baby koala. “That’s a risky game you just played.”

“I needed to take the plunge for you, to prove I am trustworthy.” He’s so calm.

“You’re a master in the art of distraction.”

“It worked. You showed up for yourself today. And all those things I said. You need to affirm them every day to yourself because they are all true.”

“Okay.”

“You’re so goddamn beautiful. I really want to kiss you.” Lincoln stares at my lips.

“I want you to kiss me too,” I whisper. I’ve never wanted to kiss someone so badly.

“Say yes.”

“To what?” I frown.

“Going out on a date with me.”

I don’t hesitate to answer. “Okay,” I squeak, not caring that we are suspended thirty feet in the air because he makes me feel safe.

We gaze at each other for what seems like an eternity.

Lincoln breaks our moment. “I’m going to release my hand from the swing. We’ll drop slightly. There will be a sudden jolt, but your carabiner, your metal clips, will lock us in place. That way the team below can lower us to the ground. Okay?” He gives me a sexy grin.

“Yeah.” I trust him.
