“You’d be surprised what Jett’s willing to do for you.”

“I’d be surprised if Jett gave me a stick of gum.” He’s made his hatred clear. “He knew we were mates.”

“None of us knew,” Atlas insists. “Even the dads were just guessing to stir shit. We had no reason to believe anything they said with their shitty record of throwing people at our pack. They picked fucking Craig for us.”

Ugh. Craig. “Fine. But Jett knew when we were kids.”

“Did he? Did you know then?”

“I…” I liked Jett—or the JJ he used to be. But I would’ve liked anyone who showed me the smallest kindness. Either way, we were both too young to have a personal scent.

“You knew and you never told us we were meant to be.” Atlas grips his chest. “If I’d known, I—”

“You still wouldn’t have believed. You thought I was another omega trying to scheme my way into your money.”

“We’re assholes. I’m just saying. You went to such extremes to hide from us. Give us a chance to go to the same extremes for you now that we believe the truth.”

I pretend his ask doesn’t knock out my knees, hopping onto the pole and spinning. “Do your best.”

“I am.”

Atlas keeps watching me practice.

He doesn’t blink.

NINETEEN

JETT

“I wouldn’t recommend going back to the location.” A deep wrinkle forms between Doctor Jakob’s brows. It’s the same expression my therapist has donned every time I’ve darkened his office. “If the trauma has affected your memories, it’s most likely a form of self-protection. Digging at those wounds could—”

“I have to.” The more I fray, the more I realize how fucked I am.

Maybe therapy could help in the long-term.

In the short-term, the best therapy for me isn’t these sessions, but what I do between them, ticking down the list of trainers who hurt Lilah.

Marc. Isaiah. Barb. Bethany.

They’ve paid for what they did.

Punishment in equal measure to their crimes. An eye for an eye, a beating for a beating.

I put my name at the top of the list in bold block letters.

JETT.

The worst offender.

Doctor Jakob suspects that trauma has warped the way I remember my abuse.

That’s why I want to pick the scab.

I need to know the truth so I know how final a punishment I deserve.

“I’ll go to my bodyguard shift as planned.” I give the doctor a look so dead-eyed, even Finn might flinch.

He and I are more alike than the others know.
