We drop the car in an underground garage, then head through an access door with metal detectors. Hunter set me up with a guest pass featuring an obnoxiously large omega symbol.
As if I need ID. The guards’ eyes bulge the second they catch my scent.
Wyverns collapse to shield me, Orion at my side, and a box of alphas surrounding us. Now I can’t see or smell anything but Jett’s tight shoulders, cedar, and his snarl. “Eyes down.”
I shouldn’t like their protection.
It should feel suffocating.
Restricting.
But the tighter they close me in, the more I feel like I can finally breathe.

When the guys swipe their badges, an angry beep sounds a few times before a guard hesitantly speaks. “Sir… Your access was voided.”
“Run it again,” Atlas says through his teeth.
Beep.
Beep.
Beeeeeeep.
“I can call my superior…” The guard trembles.
“Shit.” I’m the only one who hears Orion’s soft mutter. I offer him my hand, and he tugs it into his pocket, squeezing my fingers.
“I’ll apply for a family pass. Shouldn’t take longer than a few hours.” Atlas claps Hunter’s shoulder. “You’re in charge. Get them home safe.”
“Fucking Scorpio.” Hunter shakes his head. “Say the word and we’ll sneak you back on the compound.”
“I can handle it. You have more important things to take care of.” He moves to us, and I still.
I never forget how big Atlas is, but it’s not ’til he’s standing right in front of me that I feel so fucking tiny. Orion’s grip tightens.
I don’t know what I’m expecting Atlas to do. Maybe bark at us to obey Hunter?
Instead he puts one palm on my head, the other on Orion’s.
He pats us.
Gentle. Like you’d pet a soft bunny.
My spinal cord loses tension. My knees give.
Because holy shit, do I love being petted.
Orion reacts the same quivering way.
Least I’m not the only silly rabbit.
“Be careful,” Atlas whispers. “I’ll come back to you as soon as I can.”
The heat of his palm lingers on my head long after he’s gone.
Orion blinks. “Wha—what?”
