I slide the phone to Hunter
He nods. “I’ll get them clearance. What else do you wanna do today?”
“I have boxes of data to sort. Not going anywhere else.” As long as there’s food, I’m not leaving my hideout.
“Good.” Hunter ruffles my hair. “Stay in. Stay safe.”
Jett moves to my side. “Have you found anything?”
“Still getting organized. There’s a lot.” It’s also a lot the way his cold gaze devours me.
I chew a bite of pancake and dry swallow.
“This.” Jett offers me the brown paper bag he’s been hiding at his side. “For you.”
Suspicious, I unfold the paper.
Inside is a chocolate-chip muffin so big I have to lift it with two hands.
And blood rushes to my heart like he just handed me a fucking diamond.
Because this is the same muffin JJ used to bring, and the scent of chocolate and cedar takes me right back to the sweet memories of before.
I clutch it to my chest. “Thank you.”
Jett’s fingers and jaw clench. “Call if you find anything. We’ll jump on the smallest lead.”
“I will.”
I eat every bite of the muffin.
And the pancakes Atlas keeps tipping onto my plate. When they finally have to leave, Finn kisses my knuckles ’til I’m squirming and Hunter has to pull him away.
Only Hunter’s worse.
He overwrites Finn’s kisses with teasing nibbles until Finn pulls a knife. Laughing while he disarms him, Hunter drags Finn away.
I stick my hands in my pocket hoping they’ll stop tingling.
Atlas cleans the kitchen until it sparkles. Then he crouches in front of me, cupping my face in his big hands. When he leans in, my lips part.
But he doesn’t go for a kiss.
He rubs our cheeks.
Both sides, nuzzling me with freshly shaved skin, marking me in musk and leather.
Then, he pushes between my neck and shoulder, fucking painting me in his scent until I can’t tell if I’m numb or on fire.
He steps back, smug and satisfied, and Orion gives him a gentle kick in the ass.
Atlas laughs.
It’s a warm, rumbly sound that glues me to my stool.
“See you tonight,” Atlas promises, locking the door behind him.
