Don’t want to follow the memories down that sinkhole.

“Your scent is…” The woman’s eyes glaze. “Uh…your name, please?”

“Lilah Darling.”

“Yes!” She shakes herself, going cross-eyed as she tries to do her job. “Um. Our VIP. You’re our only Honeymoon Hills omega, so you have your own section. So many alphas have asked about you.”

That’s good.

But the bile rising in my throat says maybe not.

I swallow hard.

Have to do this.

Have to walk inside, or my future’s going to be just as bleak as my past.

The beta leads me through a security checkpoint, and I’m happy to find armed guards posted at every wall.

The lounge is super dim. It’s perfect nest ambiance, with candles on white tablecloths and the chandeliers lit just bright enough to glitter.

But scents are stronger in the dark.

So strong, I stagger.

A fucking alpha buffet, just like Catherine promised.

They smell like soap and wind and grass.

Rich wine and even freaking barbecue.

My mouth waters, my belly tightens, and I pinch my wrist to keep from being swept away by pheromones.

My everyday scent is apocalyptic.

If I get any more turned on, I’ll spark a fucking riot.

The omegas each have their own table, and they do not like when their alphas turn to watch the piece of meat that just wandered into their territory.

They track me like hunters following a fat deer.

I stroke the knife hidden in my skirt, but I don’t let myself hunch.

Let ‘em look.

Let ‘em tell their rich alpha friends there’s a new omega on the market.

“Here you are.” The beta leads me to a dim corner booth loaded with snacks on gilded plates and crystal glasses. Makes me paranoid that I'll break something and get it added to my bill, but I need to stop worrying how much everything costs.

I have bigger problems.

Like how isolated I am in this corner.

How anyone could try anything, and the guards would be too far away to help.

And not the worst, but definitely the most annoying, the goblet of shrimp cocktail. I push it to the opposite side of the table before I catch its fishy stink.

“I’m Alice if you need anything. A drink?”
