Hunter starts to crouch. “Let me—”
“No thanks.” I cross my legs, ignoring the throb of my toe to keep my feet out of his reach.
He may have forgotten the time he bandaged my road-rash, but I can’t, and it makes me twitchy that he wants to repeat his caretaking performance.
I learned my lesson.
None of them can be in touching distance or I swoon.
Except, apparently, Orion is whitelisted.
But damn it.
I need some comfort.
Without him blocking, I’d already be swept away.
“Star.” Finn’s soft, toxic whisper seeps into my ear, and I jump high enough to catch air.
Finn snuck past Orion’s barricade, circling behind the bench while I was worrying about other alphas.
Should’ve remembered who’s the most trouble.
Finn’s green eyes are black in the darkness, and his freckles shine stark against his pale, moonlit skin. His blood orange scent has me twisting just as hard as the single-minded insanity in his gaze.
Watching me the same way I watch lava cakes, Finn offers me a shard of green pottery. “Killed it for you.”
“What…” I suck in a breath because holy shit.
The toe-breaking toad is dead.
The perfect gift.
He pushes it into my palm before I can react.
“Finn.” Hunter puts a thousand words in that name, including an unspoken command to back up.
Finn tsks. “Make me.”
“I’ll make you.” I wave the piece of shattered toad like a blade.
“Yes.” Finn bares his throat, eyes lighting like lanterns. “Make me, Star.”
I dry swallow.
Big mistake.
“Finn. Back up,” Atlas barks, spitting out the growl he’s been chewing.
Finn’s jaw clicks when he grits his teeth, trying to fight the command, but he’s as vulnerable to his pack leader’s bark as I am to any alpha’s.
Bullshit omega genes.
When Finn falls into line, I finally catch sight of the shadow who couldn’t stand farther away.
Jett flinches when our gazes bump.
The breeze sweeps his long hair, and he yanks out his hair tie, letting wind-whipped hair shield his face. The moonlight gives them all an otherworldly charm, but it turns Jett into a demonic prince.
