“When can we see you again?” Kipp asks just as brightly.
“I’m on call tomorrow,” Cale says. “But the night after?”
I shake my head. “I have a dance performance.”
“Really?” Kipp straightens so fast he shakes the table. “We’ll be there. Front row.”
“It’s a pole performance.”
The Sorensens trade looks.
They might be opera guys, but they’re still guys.
Rhett straightens his glasses. “I’ve heard aerial pole can be very athletic.”
I turn my snort into a cough.
“It can be.” I also could’ve done an emotional contemporary routine in a flowy onesie.
Instead, I’m laying down a thirst trap.
I need knots. Not a fairytale.
“We’ll be there,” Rhett says.
“So, dance, huh? What else do you do for fun?” Kipp asks with his too-happy smile.
We chat until my ice cream’s gone. They tell me about their charity work and hobbies.
All the Sorensens golf.
I limit my hobby list to reading and dancing because I don’t think they’ll be impressed with my ability to craft shivs from household objects.
Thankfully, they don’t ask for my booklist. I’d have to lie and pretend I read anything other than tax law and shifter smut.
When Rhett’s cell rings, he checks the number and gets a tic in his cheek. “Office. I’ll have to take this. Anyway, we’ve taken too much of your time.”
“Thanks for sitting with me.” I don’t think we’re compatible, but that’s why they just shot to the top of my list.
They’re decent.
I won’t catch feelings and neither should they if it’s clear up front that none of us are looking for permanent.
“We’ll see you at your showcase.” Jason smiles with eye crinkles. “I’ll bring cheesecake.”
“Front row.” Kipp waves.
“See you soon, Lilah.” Cale ducks away, following his alphas as they trade excited whispers.
I take a few deep breaths.
I think I did okay?
Nobody tried to kidnap me, I didn’t get shot, and I wasn’t too awkward.
It’s my most successful event ever.
After a beta clears the empty dishes, I drum my toes against the carpet, waiting for the next pack.
