I should run.

But I can’t.

Omegas are supposed to be clingy.

Touchy.

Affectionate.

I swear I’m none of those.

I’m also a fucking liar.

I hug back, arms twining his shoulders, soaking up his scent, his breath, his warmth.

Even his affection.

I want to burrow inside him and just for a minute, pretend I belong in the world where I’m held and safe instead of tossed around like a kite with its strings cut.

“You said you’d help me with my homework.” Orion’s voice is soft as feathers.

“Now?” I ask too sharply.

“Grounding techniques.” He smooths my hair from my neck and runs his thumb along my collarbone. “For soothing omegas. Been learning the omega half. But I can practice the alpha part on you. If you want to be soothed.”

“You can try.” But I’ve read the books, and with my heart hammering its bars like a prisoner with a tin cup, I don’t think his tricks are gonna work.

Until Orion nips my throat.

A sharp, ticklish jolt that drags me out of my doomsday thoughts, straight back into my needy, just-got-electrocuted body.

He kisses the bite.

Soft lips.

Gentle heat.

I melt.

Liquid fucking jelly.

Then he bites me again.

And again.

Soft nips, just hard enough to tug my skin between his teeth. He moves lower, lower on my neck, each bite followed by a dizzying stroke of his tongue until he’s teasing the sweet spot where my neck and shoulder join and I’m jackknifing in his lap.

My body doesn’t give a shit that Orion’s not alpha.

“Sweet girl,” he purrs against my neck, tugging my hair just hard enough to tip back my throat. “Such a perfect omega.”

Oh fuck.

I’m not being grounded.

I’m being set on fire.

Slowly.
