When Amy joined them, he asked her how it had gone with her brother. She didn’t seem all that upset, for which he was happy and said she’d talk to him later. It was Mom who asked her if Jamie was all right.

“He is, actually. I didn’t know if you’d like to know his decision now or not. I should have remembered that you think of Jamie and his family as part of yours. But after explaining to both of them what was figured out, they told me that they’d take precautions. Then, they’d call me back when they had a decision. That was Jamie talking. Not two seconds after we hung up, presumably to talk, Carol called back and told me that Jamie was going to run or she was. But he’d better be stepping up to the plate. I think she’d make a great president, but that’s not up to me. He’ll run. Simply because of the kids.”

“You’ve no idea how much better that makes me feel. I didn’t want to—well, I’m sure you can understand how hard it was for me. I didn’t know if you’d believe me or not. I didn’t want you to think that I was batty so soon in the relationship.” Mom laughed and told Dad that they all knew he was batty. “Thank you, love. It’s great that I can depend on you in the time of seriousness.”

Dinner was a family affair. His brothers all brought something to add to the meal, desserts mostly, and he and Amy had gone to the new bakery in town and got several long loaves of crusty bread. He made himself a couple of grilled veggie subs and couldn’t have been happier with them. Amy had a burger but decided about halfway through it that she didn’t care for it. It was fine with Falkner, who only just arrived from school because he ate hers and three more of them. There were going to be a few leftovers before he arrived, but now it was going to be iffy if there were even going to be scraps left.

“I have some questions for you all, if you don’t mind me asking.” They all told Amy to ask away. “Thank you. Oh, before I forget. I did develop the pictures that I took the day at the zoo of Cuco. That’s part of what I wanted to ask you guys. I need a job. It doesn’t have to be photos, but I don’t want to sit around on my ass all the time waiting for someone to need me.”

Getting up, she picked up the envelope that she’d brought with them to his parent’s house. After handing it to him, he was amazed at the quality of the photos. When he got to the other pictures she’d taken that day of the other animals, he was blown away by the shots. They were perfect for the upcoming calendar that the zoo was planning on selling in the fall for next year. Then he found the ones of Cocu and her infant.

He’d been there, of course, but these photos gave him insight that he’d not had while attending to Cocu. Amy had managed to capture her pain while holding her child. The love too that she had for her child. The pictures of her and Amy together, the two of them sitting side by side with the child between them, hurt him to his core. He’d not seen, ever in his life, such compassion between two beings. It was as if the two of them were bonding over the impending death of the child.

No one said a word as they looked over the pictures. It wasn’t until Dad cleared his throat that everyone turned to look at him. There were tears in his eyes as he tried to speak. Dallas knew just how he felt. Like his throat was closed up around a large emotional lump. Finally, after wiping his eyes with his napkin several times, he looked at Amy.

“These are by and far the best pictures I’ve ever seen. And I think that every person that buys one will feel the same way. There is so much feeling in these that I can almost… Amy, you should do this for all zoos so that they can bring in a hefty profit. Tomorrow morning, I’m going to make a few phone calls and praise your work to the moon and back. Yes, ma’am, that’s what I’m going to do.” Amy flushed brightly and thanked Dad. “You’re so very welcome. Oh honey, this is going to help out so many places in having a money maker.”

After dinner and helping Mom clean up, they all sat out on the deck to enjoy the rest of the evening. All he could think about was the pictures and how much he loved them. When Amy sat down next to him on the bench, he took her hand into his and kissed the back of it. Lying her head on his shoulder, Dallas was about as happy as he’d been in a long while. Family. That’s what made the world go around.

Walking home later, they talked about just about anything that popped into their head. Amy didn’t bring up what had happened with her brother, and he didn’t either. It was something that Jamie would have to decide about. Saying he was going to run again was all right. But most importantly, he thought that the man should do it for all the right reasons and not lose sight of the fact that he was a good man and a great president. And that, he knew, would be secondary in his mind when it came to his children’s lives.

“My parents are going to move to DC to be closer to the kids. I’m happy for that. I love them to pieces, but I think that my mom and I would butt heads daily about everything. I did mention to you that she was pushy, didn’t I?” He laughed and told her that he’d felt her pushiness a great deal over the last few days. “Yeah, me too. She wants me to sell the big house and move into something more manageable. I haven’t any idea why, and she didn’t have an answer either. But that’s my mom. Not even telling her that we’re interviewing for staff had her thinking that we can manage a home on our own.”

“I think she is thinking that you’re still a child or something. Could that be it?” She said that it might. Her mom had never seen her as an adult. “I can see that. She’s focused a great deal on Jamie and his career, don’t you think?”

“Yes, that’s a good way to put it. To hear her talking, she only gave birth to him so that he’d be president one day. It’s all on her that he’s such a good one too.” Amy laughed. “I don’t mean to put her down. She had a great deal to do with him being what he is today. She didn’t encourage me as much as she does him. I think it had to do with the fact that there are so many years difference between the two of us. Jamie was nearly sixteen when I was born.”

“I didn’t realize that.” As soon as they were home, the two of them went up to bed. He was still feeling the effects of the last few days and didn’t mind at all that it was only nine, and he was headed to bed. “I go back to work tomorrow. I’m going to miss you so much.”

“I’m going to get busy with the house. There are some things that I want to get fixed before winter settles in. We’re going to need a new furnace as well as the roof needs to be redone.” He smiled at the things she was saying. It was all the things that a responsible homeowner would worry about. Nothing like her mother thought she was. “I’m going to take a bath. Want to join me?”

“Sure.” Then he laughed. Would there ever be a time when he wasn’t hard and ready to be with her? More than likely not, he told himself.

Chapter 6

Filling the tub, they both were now cuddling in the warm water. Her back was to his chest, and he was enjoying having her so close. His cock was hard as stone, but he didn’t feel the need to plow her right now. With a slight laugh, he decided that the word plow wasn’t a good thing to say to his future wife.

“You know, now that we’ve mated, we don’t really have to get married. I mean, I’m just as content as I can be just being with you all the time.” Dallas watched as she lifted her leg high out of the water and ran the sponge down the length. Staring at her, he nearly missed what she was saying. “Your dad told me that I’d not be a gorilla. That hurt me in ways that I can’t explain. But just being with you, as I said, it’s just as good. Don’t you think?”

“Honestly, when he told me, I was heartbroken as well. It’s hard to say what your body will do, if anything at all, with us being mated now. However, I have to tell you the thought of you having our child soon is really sexy sounding.”

As she was sitting between his legs, it didn’t take much to show how sexy he thought it was. He was hard every time he was near her, and now wasn’t any exception. The slippery soap she was using on the sponge made his hands slide over her breasts and nipples like silk.

“Is that all you can think about is sex?” She groused at him. “I mean, there are more things than just fucking you know. Like just cuddling up with each other.”

Dallas thought about it and grinned, but didn’t put forth too much effort and answered her, “Yes. Of course, but only when you’re around.” Her looking at him was pure sin.

“Good save and good answer.” She turned around to his body and straddled his lap. She began to move up and down, back and forth across his erection, riding him. He reached out to lift her breast into his mouth, pulling her nipple into his mouth, sucking hard.

“Amy, you have no idea of the things that I want to do to you right now. I want to make love to you in the worst sort of way. Slowly and gently, but I think that I’m just too hard to make it anywhere near that kind of making love.” She moaned hard and deep at his need.

Amy didn’t answer him with words but lifted herself up and over him. She reached down and pulled his cock up, stroking him once and fit himself into her. She slid herself down onto him, seating herself fully before she began rocking against him again. Leaning forward, she lifted and gave him her breast, moaning loudly when he again pulled her nipple into his warm mouth.

He looked into her eyes, seeing her trust, and bit down none too gently. She began bucking hard down over him, nearly throwing herself off until he grabbed her hips, grinding her down harder, helping her reach her climax. He loved her responses, the small noises that she made when she was close. He came with a groan, spewing into her again and again as she cried out that she was coming as well.

It was just coming on dawn when he woke up. Amy was still asleep, so he snuck out of bed and made his way to the bathroom. After a quick shave and shower, he made his way down to the kitchen after dressing. He was pulling on his boots when Amy joined him.

“I thought you’d sleep a little longer.” She said that she had heard from her mother and then couldn’t go back to sleep. “Does she ever sleep? My goodness, it’s not even five in the morning yet.”
