Without even a second’s hesitation, Sam linked his fingers with mine. Pushing open the door, he pulled me inside as music blasted and hit my ears instantly.

The room was decorated beautifully for a wedding day. Shades of lilacs, pinks and sage greens were everywhere. The bridesmaids dressed in off the shoulder sage green dresses. The center pieces were tall crystal vases with ostrich feathers all dyed in the colors to match. Disco balls lit up the dance floor and beautiful fairy lights lit up the ceiling with drapes of satin white curtains.

It was absolutely gorgeous and gave me ideas for Joe's wedding. We could still stick to the Christmas theme, but fairy lights were a must have decoration.

Pulling me further in towards the bar, there was a large cocktail pitcher set up with a help yourself sign. After pouring two glasses, we turned to watch as everyone enjoyed themselves. I wondered how long it would take until we were spotted.

“You wanna dance?”

Sam leaned forward and shouted a little over the blaring music as the dance floor filled with the sway of people. I had absolutely no idea what song the DJ was even playing as I had never heard it in my life. Some dance remix number and there was no way I was going to be able to dance to it.

“Maybe the next one.”

I awkwardly took a sip of my drink. I saw Sam roll his eyes with an up to no good smile, before leaving me and heading towards the DJ. Oh God, he was going to request something wasn’t he? After a few minutes of watching them, both of them were laughing and smiling together, he started walking back to me.

“I have a request tonight, from a very special VIP guest, who wishes to send their congratulations to the happy couple.”

Shrugging off his jacket, he then held out his hand to me, Sam smiled at me and his eyes lit up. The song started to play, and I threw my head back laughing. Of course, he would pick Olly Murs, 'Dance with me Tonight'. He remembered my obsession over this guy through my teens and knew without fail, I’d get up and dance.

Taking his hand, he pulled me into a spring as we made our way to the dance floor swinging, side stepping, jigging, and jiving with it, whatever dance moves we could make together. We didn’t seem that uncoordinated which was interesting. And as the song came to an end, it slowly faded into a slower song. Without a word, Sam pulled me into a slow dance to Eric Clapton, 'Wonderful Tonight'.

Some of the wedding guests left the dance floor, leaving it for the few couples that were left to dance together. Including the bride and groom, who slowly made their way to dance beside us. The groom’s eyes lit up as he recognized Samuel.

“You’re – You're - oh my god!!”

He shouted as he looked Sam up and down, gobsmacked. His bride didn’t seem to fully understand what was happening, other than noticing we were two gatecrashers of her wedding. If I were a bride, I may have been pissed.

“Honey, it's…”

The groom leaned towards his bride, whispering in her ear and her eyes lit up as she realized, looking back at Sam and me.

“I hope you don’t mind us sneaking in.” Sam leaned forward so they could hear him. “The bar was pretty boring.”

“No, of course not, ha ha! You are welcome to stay!”

The groom was overly excited and seemed to be enjoying himself more now that a celebrity had joined his party. The groom wanted to continue some sort of conversation, but his bride smiled and whisked him away to continue their slow dance.

“I thought we were goners then, thankfully you’re a famous hockey player, huh?” Winking at Sam, his face flashed a hint of red as he spun me out then pulled me back in.

“Where did you learn to dance?” I asked.

“I dated a girl back in college who was obsessed with period dramas. She made me take lessons with her; they’ve come in handy I think.”

I felt a sudden tightness in my stomach as I thought about him with another girl. It was strange. I had read multiple news articles where he had been seen with different women, sometimes a different one each week. I knew he was that type of guy, or was he still one? I deeply hoped not.

“What happened?” He asked, leaning in towards me.

“Nothing. Why?”

“Your face dropped a little, was it something I said?”

Had my face given away my thoughts? I was pretty good at keeping a poker face on, I had to be. But then again, this was the most relaxed I had been in a long time. Dancing and enjoying myself, I was afraid when the other shoe was going to drop and how badly I’d feel it.

“In this room filled with people, you’re the only woman I see right now,” he whispered in my ear and my cheeks flushed red.

Looking up at him as his eyes darkened a little and a small smile appeared across his face, I felt that same heat running up my thighs. His voice was tender, and his eyes were filled with wanting. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I was meant to avoid him as much as I could at the rink and yet, he kept showing up in the same places I was. And deep down, I didn’t mind.

Letting go of him as the song stopped, I left him on the dance floor and headed back to the bar. I needed some air. Luke’s face flashed in my mind as the memory of him came flooding back. What was I doing?
