Beckett exhaled slowly, between his teeth, like he didn’t want Miles to hear. “Talk about what?” he asked.

“I’m still interested in hearing about your love life.”

“I don’t think ‘love’ is the right word to describe it.”

“Sex life, then.” Miles dragged his fingers up Beckett’s shoulder. “I want to know all the details. Like, what’s your type?”

Beckett turned, so he was lying on his back, looking up at Miles. “Men, for starters.”

Electricity bolted through Miles, shooting for his lower stomach. It wasn’t shock, exactly. More like excitement.

“Oh?” Miles asked. “What kind of men?”

“All kinds.”

“That’s not an answer,” Miles said, dragging his fingertips up and down Beckett’s upper arm. “You must have a preference.” Beckett looked at Miles long enough to make him feel self-conscious. “Do you want to hear my type?” Miles asked, to break the silence.

“Not particularly.”

He ignored that. “Pretty eyes and a kind personality.”

Beckett snorted.

“What?”

“Those are the most generic preferences a person could have. Anyone could qualify for them.”

“No,” Miles protested.

“Yes.”

“Don’t rag on me for my preferences when you were too scared to even tell me yours,” Miles said.

“I like it when a guy has a nice smile.”

Miles groaned and shook Beckett. “Right, the feature of ‘a nice smile’ is not generic at all.”

“When his smile is a little lopsided but totally genuine. I love that.”

Miles huffed, pretending to be irritated, but gave up the act halfway through and laughed. He liked learning about Beckett, about this topic, no less. He was beginning to crack a years old mystery.

“Miles?” Beckett said.

“Yeah?”

“You’re touching me.”

“Oh.” Miles looked down as saw he was still drawing lines on Beckett’s bicep and whipped his hands back. How long had he been doing that? “Sorry, I—”

“It’s okay.”

Miles returned back to the topic at hand. “Does the guy you like have a nice smile?” he asked.

Beckett’s brow creased. “The guy I like?”

“You said there was someone you liked earlier today.”

“Right.” Beckett’s eyes flicked down Miles’s face. “He has the nicest smile.”
