The front window is full of book displays and fairy lights—my wife has a gift for making things look cozy as hell. I ignore the “closed” sign on the door and open it anyway, walking inside. The store is overflowing with books of every size, spilling out all over the place. Gorgeous mountain artworks line the walls, including a painting of my farmhouse by a local artist from Winterdale. Comfy, overstuffed armchairs fill every corner, and strings of fairy lights hang across the walls, making the store look warm and cozy.

Maeve is sitting in an armchair by the coffee corner, sipping a mug of hot cocoa with her nose in a book. My eyes stray down to her rounded belly, and I feel a fierce rush of love as I look at my gorgeous wife. She’s almost seven months pregnant with our daughter, and even though part of me wishes she was sitting at home all day while I wait on her, I know how much she loves her work. The store is thriving, and Maeve loves coming here every day. She’s a natural businesswoman, and I’m so damn proud of her.

“Hey baby,” I say, weaving my way through several bookshelves to reach her armchair.

She looks up from her book, beaming at me. “Hi! I missed you this morning.”

“I missed you too.” I lean down to kiss her, smiling at the taste of cocoa on her lips. “I’m here now. I bought you a slice of cake from the bakery.”

Maeve’s eyes widen. “Red velvet?”

“You bet.”

She grins at me. “Thanks, you’re the best. I’ve been craving it like crazy.”

“How was your morning?” I ask as Maeve tucks into her slice of cake.

“Busy!” she says. “I’m so glad I ordered extra copies of the new Colleen Hoover book—they’re selling like hotcakes! There must be lots of romance lovers in Winterdale.”

I feel something brush against my leg and look down to see Maeve’s black cat, Button, nuzzling her head against me. I reach down to stroke her and she purrs loudly, closing her eyes. She’s wearing a cute little collar that says “assistant” on it, and it makes me smile.

“How’s your new assistant doing?” I ask, grinning at my wife.

She chuckles. “She’s doing great. Everybody loves Button. Sometimes people come in just to see her and they end up buying a book. She’s great for business, and not to mention she’s super cute.”

I smile at Maeve, my heart filling with love as she continues chattering about her day. She’s glowing from her pregnancy, and her green eyes sparkle from behind her glasses as she tells me about all her customers and her plans to add a new shelf for Japanese literature.

“Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out, Mrs. Ryder.”

Maeve beams at me. Even now, hearing her married name makes her smile. I love it just as much as she does—getting to call her Mrs. Ryder makes my heart swell. I still can’t believe this gorgeous woman is all mine. I fall more in love with her every day, from her kind heart to her thick curves.

My perfect wife.

I love her more than anything, and I can’t wait to meet our baby in a couple of months. Maeve will be the most amazing mom. She’s already a favorite among all our nieces and nephews, and she loves reading to them and gifting them new books.

“I saw Cade this morning by the way,” Maeve says, setting aside her empty cake box. “I invited him and Ella over for dinner next week.”

“Cool. It will be good to see them both.”

Cade and Ella have been holed up together in his cabin for a while. Apparently, they’re struggling to keep their hands off each other long enough to leave it. I always assumed Cade and I would be loners forever, but now it seems we’re both completely obsessed with our women. Life sure is crazy sometimes.

“Can you help me with something?” Maeve asks, pushing herself out of the armchair. “There’s a few boxes that need moving in the back.”

“Sure, princess.”

She takes my hand and guides me into the backroom which is stacked with even more books. I shift a few boxes, following Maeve’s directions before turning to her, my pulse quickening. The bookstore’s backroom is fast becoming one of my favorite places in the world. It’s where my wife and I spend a lot of our lunchtimes.

“Thanks for helping me,” Maeve says, her eyes shining suggestively as she looks at me.

“Anything for you.”

Now that we’re hidden away in the backroom, I reach for her, pulling her close to me and hooking my finger beneath her chin until she’s forced to look at me with that angelic little face.

“You’re so fucking pretty,” I tell her, my cock stirring as Maeve presses herself against me.

“I don’t feel very pretty,” she says with a huff. “This baby is making me feel huge.”

“You’re gorgeous, Maeve. I love your curves so damn much.”
