I wince. “Yeah… he wasn’t any more thrilled about it than you were, if I’m being honest. But I promise I’m not pushing your project aside. You’re still my priority client.”

He nods. His eyes move down my body, to my crossed legs. My knees weaken. How can this man go from ready to drill me into the lobby floor to thinking clearly inappropriate thoughts within seconds?

It was the inappropriate thoughts that got us here, I’m reminded as my stomach twists. Is that from the nausea or the way he’s looking at me?

Nick finally sits back, bringing a hand up, fingers brushing his jaw. I can’t help wondering what that five-o-clock shadow would feel like against my inner thighs…

Shaking the thought off, I blink and ask, “Did you come here just because I canceled the appointment for tomorrow? I asked Mitch to reach out and resched—”

“He did. That’s not why I’m here.”

And then Nicholas Weaver, CEO of Weaver Industries, is sitting in front of me—all business. His cool gaze pins me in the chair and his broad chest swells as he takes a deep breath.

“I’m here to tell you that in two days, I’m going to be picking you up for a networking event.” Nick hesitates for a moment, then adds, “I need a date.”

My mouth drops open. I glance around and see some people in the lobby giving us curious looks. A man as handsome and commanding as Nick Weaver can’t go anywhere without attention on him.

Hopefully, they don’t notice the way he’s looking at me.

But a man like Nick Weaver wouldn’t actually fall for you, would he?

It’s a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. I’m mostly leaning toward ‘no.’ But at the same time, I can’t help but wonder why he keeps coming around wanting more from me.

Okay, I’m his lawyer. His family’s lawyer, technically. But he didn’t need to kiss me in the closet, he didn’t need to seduce me in his office, or even come here to confront me face-to-face.

It’s obvious what a woman like me would see in a man like him. But what doeshesee inme?

If he’s looking for something no-strings-attached, it’s a little too late, that responsible voice in my head whispers annoyingly.

I’m guessing Nick will be less than pleased if he ever finds out that I’m pregnant. And I still haven’t decided what to do.

The way he’s looking at me right now, though, coaxes me into a weak nod.

I just can’t say no to him when he’s right in front of me.

Especially if I’m planning on disappearing from his life sooner rather than later.

“Okay,” I say, nervously uncrossing and re-crossing my legs and hoping he stops boring into me with those seductive eyes. “Fine. Can you text me the details?”

“I’m picking you up.”

A statement, not a question. I can’t help but smile.

“Alright… fine. But I can’t be out late.”

He doesn’t answer, only returns my smile with a very sexy raised eyebrow.

Then Nick Weaver slowly rises from the chair and, without breaking eye contact, holds out a hand. I take it.

His fingers wrapped around mine are warm, promising safety. They are unusually gentle despite how his entire hand engulfs mine.

My breath catches. I pull my hand away and purse my lips, telling myself that I’m not falling for him. That my heart skipped a beat because I’ve barely eaten anything today, not because Nick Weaver is everything I didn’t know I wanted.

His fingers slip away and he turns, walking out of the building, back straight and hair ruffling in the evening breeze.

One more night together. That’s all I want before I finish this account and have to let him go.

If I can’t have the bossy billionaire bachelor to myself, I’ll settle for one more night. And the little flutter of a future curled deep in my body. He won’t ever know about that though.
