Ransom put his hand on my knee and squeezed it. “You passed out because you had to kill someone to save me. You’re entitled to rest, but I’m being selfish. I missed you.” He kissed both my cheeks, coming down on top of me. “If any of the rest of them were home, they’d come in here and tell me off, since I was given specific instructions to leave you alone. If only I was any good at following directions.” He shook his head as if in apology, yet his expression seemed more playful than repentant.

I loved seeing him like that, so relaxed and unburdened. He was happy to be a little bit edgy most of the time, and I appreciated that about him. And sexy? The carved look of his face stretched down to his broad, strong shoulders. A thrum of anticipation electrified my senses, making me aware of where our bodies touched. I cupped the side of his face. “I’m glad you woke me. I don’t know if anyone has ever missed me before.” I bit my lower lip. “Thank you for saying that.”

“Butterfly…” He kissed my forehead again before he moved his attention to my mouth. “Let me show you how much I missed you.”

I kissed him back, our tongues tangling until he left me breathless. “I’d love that, actually. Go ahead and show me, Ransom. How much did you miss me?”

I never would’ve dared to speak to Clarke’s clients that way. No, I kept my tone low and easy with them. Push at them with defiance? That wasn’t me. Except apparently it was…with Ransom. He called me butterfly. Did that mean that he thought I was going through that kind of change and would transform into some more majestic form?

I shook my head, pulling out of his kiss to admit, “You make me talk like I’m not myself. I’m changing with you.”

He smiled down at me before he kissed my neck, his lips traveling until he could nibble my earlobe. “You’ve changed me so much, I’m practically unrecognizable. The guy that you met your first day here? That’s who I was.”

I kissed his chin. “Maybe we don’t need to worry about who we were. Maybe we just focus on who we’d like to become?”

Ransom must have liked that idea, because his light, drugging kisses changed. Suddenly at the center of his laser sharp focus, I found every bit of his enhanced abilities focused on my mouth, and I arched into him with a moan.

Despite the fire of his attention, I didn’t have to struggle to keep up with him. As though he learned the rhythms I liked, or understood how fast I wanted to move, and when I needed to take a breath. Ransom fit himself to me, perfectly.

“Before this gets too urgent, I just want to be clear,” he said, his voice husky as he whispered to me. “I want to be with you. I think some people call it making love or other words. I wish I had done more of a study about how people talk about passion, but I never thought it would be part of my life. So…is that what you want as well?”

I took both his cheeks in my hands before rubbing my nose along his. “Very much. I want to have sex with you. Absolutely.”

“Good.” He nodded. “I didn’t want to assume that you...”

I kissed him, the hunger in my caress effectively cutting off whatever he was going to say. I tugged at his shirt. “Let me take care of you for a while?”

He furrowed his brow. “What do you mean?”

I smiled at him. Oh, the things I could teach him… “Roll over.”

He nodded. “Okay.” When he swallowed, my lips curled into a smile.

As if he saw my expression and somehow felt at a disadvantage, he flipped me over easily to straddle him. I didn’t doubt for a moment his dominance.

His eyes widened as he looked up my body, so I stroked my hand down over my breasts, molding their shape while he watched. I leaned over him. “You’ve seen me naked several times now.” I stroked a finger down his cheek, feeling his beard and the highness of his cheekbones beneath the pads of my fingertips.

“Different now. It just is.” A muscle in his jaw ticked, a metronome of his tension.

I nodded. “I know.”

I tugged at his shirt again, and he took it off for me, throwing it across the room with abandon.

His muscles were well- defined and beautiful in the morning light streaming through the window. I ran my fingers over them, loving the way they jumped as I stroked him. With a scoot I was closer to him, nuzzling on his neck to breathe him in.

It seemed like a good place to start kissing him, so I did. And then lower, all over his chest, anywhere I could reach, stopping to tongue his nipples before I lightly bit his left one.

“Fuck.” He bucked beneath me on a groan. “Fuck, Raven.”

The nickname vanished, which was fine by me. I loved when he called me Butterfly, but him losing control was fine by me as well. We’ve hardly gotten started.

He gripped the back of my hair, running his fingers through it. “Watch how much of that you do. I want to come inside of you.”

I heard him, but I only paused long enough to make eye contact with him and wink. He lifted his head and groaned, a fake sound since he accompanied it with a laugh. “You might be trying to kill me. You’re so fucking sexy. That red hair. Those eyes. How did I ever do without you?”

I continued my quest to kiss my way down his body. I slid his briefs down his long, strong thighs, reveling in the texture of the chestnut brown hair growing there.

His cock was as erect as I could imagine it getting, and a quick glance proved he gripped the sheets on the bed as if they kept him grounded. I quickly moved, hoping he wouldn’t guess my intention.
