She could hear Gabby’s footsteps following her as they made their way to the back of the store. They shuffled quicker and quicker until her cousin came around and stood in front of her. “What is that supposed to mean? You’re not going to do anything reckless, are you?”

Megan stilled. The thought to sabotage him had crossed her mind—but only when he’d called her names and treated her like she was beneath him. If she were honest with herself, she would admit that those tactics weren’t part of who she was. She heaved a sigh and shook her head. “No. That’s not who I am.”

“That’s not who he is either.”

She shrugged. “And you might be right. Only time will tell.” Megan glanced around the bookstore as it continued to come together. The shelves were in place and about eighty percent of the books had been inventoried and placed on their shelves. The tea and coffee shipments were here and ready to be displayed. They were on track to open the beginning of next week if not the end of this one.

“You know what we should do?” Gabby broke into her thoughts.

“What?”

“We should do something to help people to get to know you. We can make flyers and do a pop-up in the park. Everyone in town can come this weekend and meet you. They can see what you’re all about—and we can make some of those teas and coffees along with cookies and pastries.”

“That’s actually not a bad idea,” Meagan mused. “I could get to know the folks around here, too.”

Gabby gasped. “I have the perfect person in mind to help us get this organized.”

“You do?”

“Well, actually it’s two people. But they’re literally the best and you’re never going to believe who it is.”

* * *

“You didn’t tellme you know the Holt sisters,” Megan hissed, her eyes taking in the women who climbed out of the truck just outside her shop.

They were ather shopand they were going to help her with her little event in the park.

It hadn’t taken much to reserve a small space in the center among the trails and the playground equipment. All they had to do was create the flyers and get the word out.

Gabby beamed at her. “I told you that you’d never believe it.”

Megan shook out her hands, her nerves getting the better of her. “These guys are internationally recognized. I had heard they moved out to the country somewhere but I didn’t realize it washere.”

Her cousin laughed. “Okay, settle down. It’s not like they’re celebrities.”

“But they are—at least in the social circles I’m used to.”

“Yeah, well even they had struggles coming here. The locals didn’t like them as much as you might think.”

Megan shot Gabby a sharp look but was unable to get details on what she meant before the door to the bookstore opened. Kelsey and Brooke entered and it was like a light filled the room.

Okay, that was a little dramatic, but Megan couldn’t help it. She’s heard so much about them. Up until recently, she’d even followed them on social media. Megan should have known better and kept up with the changes they’d made in their lives.

Kelsey had her hair cut shorter, into a bob while Brooke’s hung around her shoulders. They both smiled warmly at Megan, sending a shiver down her spine. She launched forward, holding out her hand. “Thank you so much for coming. I can’t believe it’s you.”

The sisters exchanged smiles then Kelsey laughed. “You might want to tone it down a bit. We’re just two girls who want to help your bookstore thrive.”

Megan couldn’t contain the small squeal that released from her chest which only caused the Holt sisters to laugh.

Gabrielle let out a groan at her side. “I’m so sorry about my cousin. She’s clearly a big fan.”

Brooke waved her off. “Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s sorta refreshing to find someone here that actually appreciates what we do. Once upon a time it wasn’t so great here.” She gave Kelsey a meaningful look. “Thankfully that part of our lives is over.” She rubbed her hands together and looked around the bookstore again. “So, what’s the plan? You want to bring folks out to your store? Do a big grand opening?”

Megan inched closer. “Actually, we were thinking of meeting everyone out in a common space. We scheduled a location at the park on Saturday.”

Kelsey’s brows shot up and she whipped out her phone. “Saturday doesn’t give us much opportunity to get the word out.”

Megan’s heart dropped. “Really? I thought that would be a good time. Do we need to push it back?”
