“Amen,” Hunter said. “Though I’m not sure Elsie did any taming. Hell, I would have to tameher, and I’m not interested in that.”

“Personally, I like a hellcat,” Gus said, smiling smugly.

Charity was not a hellcat. He was glad that Hunter and Gus enjoyed their fiery-tempered wives. Elsie and Alaina made them happy. Tag and Brody’s wives were sweeter natured.

They seemed no less satisfied.

“Well, let’s get all the stuff moved over. There’s tons of it. I want to have it done before she gets back from work. I don’t want her to have to do a damn thing. Anyway, she’s already putting together the wedding shindig. Did you ask Alaina if we can use the barn at Sullivan’s? The weather is probably a little bit too iffy to get married out by the lake.”

“Alaina wants to know how much you’re willing to pay, since you were trying to date Fia just five seconds ago, and now you want to get married in her barn.”

“I’ll pay anything,” he said.

“Obviously, she’s kidding,” Gus said.

“I don’t know that she is,” Lachlan said.

“Yeah,” Hunter agreed. “Have youmetyour wife, Gus?”

“It’s true. She’s a pretty vindictive little shrew.” Except when he said that, he smiled and looked lost in some kind of fantasy that Lachlan felt for sure he didn’t need to be privy to.

He was just glad to get to join in this... This whole thing. The McClouds were paired off. They were settled. They were marked safe from being their damned parents.

Life had changed. He didn’t have partners in crime anymore. They wanted to stay home, play poker, eat family dinners.

It was new for them. This kind of warm feeling in that house that Gus lived in now. It was like they had taken all these demons and cast them out.

Too bad it hasn’t done anything inside you.

He was realizing there were some things he hadn’t considered when it came to blending his life with someone else’s, because the woman had been theoretical. Even when he’d been thinking it might be Fia Sullivan, it had been different.

But he knew Charity’s life.

Her little house.

Her habits.

They were going to share a room. Share a bed. Not just for sex.

Right now he couldn’t imagine it.

But he also felt a growing intensity in him. A need to have her with him all the time.

None of that was what he’d imagined.

“How many Christmas lights do you suppose we have between us?” Lachlan asked.

“I’ve been told that Wolf’s wife loves Christmas, and has more Christmas decorations than any ten people should have,” Hunter said.

“Okay. And everybody else?”

Gus shrugged. “I’m sure there’s thousands between all the families here.”

“We should do Christmas lights all over the barn. White ones. She’d love that.”

“I thought you were leaving the wedding up to her?” Brody said.

“I am, more or less. But... I know she’d like that.”
