He scoffs. "Omegas need to learn their place. You'll see that's true when they destroy Solstice Bay."

"Is that why I'm still alive?" I ask. "You want to prove a point?"

"Nah...you're still alive because our operation could use information," he says. "And we plan on slowly, painfully breaking you."

I hold back a shudder, not wanting him to see just how threatening that is. I've paid my dues getting locked up in an ACB prison years ago, and I know just how brutal they can be.

I don't want to go back...but I also won't tell them anything that could help them.

It's a death sentence.

I have to get out of here.

"Where are the others?" I ask, glancing around. The place is nice, luxurious. Not much I can work with, but I've already discovered a metal piece on the back of this chair that I might be able to use to saw through the zip tie. If I can get my hands free, I can take this guy. That all changes if the other guys are lurking around.

"Do you think I'm fucking stupid?" he asks, crossing his arms and leaning against the door frame. I think we're in a bedroom--and judging by the view through the window to my right, it's upstairs. "I'm not giving you any information."

"I don't think you're stupid at all," I say. "You clearly know your shit, otherwise you wouldn't have me tied up in the first place."

"Flirting isn't gonna work either," he mutters.

I snort. "I amnotflirting with you. I'm just saying...maybe we could make a deal."

"Like what?"

I have no intention of making a deal with him, but the longer I can keep him talking, the longer he'll be distracted. I start to subtly move my wrists behind me, schooling my expression to stay neutral.

"The girl--I assume your buddies went to go get her," I say. "She's rich. Loaded, in fact."

"With ACB money."

"If you say so," I shrug. "But what if we claimed her--you and me? Steal her away to some spot in the Rockies, have some fun, get access to her accounts..."

The guy frowns. "Mr. Worthington would be pissed."

"Why do you give a shit about Worthington?" I ask. "He's old news. Trust me--the ACB isn't making a comeback. The Enclave has a stranglehold on Solstice Bay, and omegas are fighting for their rights all over the city-states. The ACB is in the past...but that money is still very, very real."

The guy's eyes narrow as he considers my words. I take the opportunity to continue to work my hands, the rough metal biting into the zip tie. It's slow going, but I need to give myself as much time as possible.

"And what's in it for you?" he asks finally, suspicion lacing his voice.

"I get a cut of the money, obviously," I say with a shrug. "And I get to walk away from this whole Enclave mess. I'm tired of fighting...maybe it's time to take a break."

He barks out a laugh. "You're a tough one to read, aren't you? I can't tell if you're lying or not."

"I'm not," I say, my voice firm. "You and I both know that Worthington is on his way out. The Enclave is where the power is now. We could make a real killing together."

He hesitates, and I can see the gears turning. I keep sawing away at the zip tie, eager to escape and fucking strangle this guy...

Then both our heads snap up at the sound of a motor.

There's someone coming.

He races over to the window and looks out, and I get to work sawing with even more fervor. If the other two men are coming back, I need to hurry up and overpower this one--

"Shit," he mutters, then he pulls his gun from the holster at his hip and suddenly rushes from the room.

What the hell is going on out there?
