I climb the stairs with a couple other omegas at the end of the night, eventually branching off to my own room. I'm surprised to find Callum standing by the door, one hand in his pocket, the other scrolling through a tablet. He looks up at me when I draw closer, a smile on his face.

"Hi," I say quietly, my heart drumming in my chest at the sight of him. I didn't come here to spend time with alphas...but there's something about Callum that feels safe. "I didn't expect to see you here."

"Miss Toure personally requested that I make sure you get back safely," he says. "So...you're safe?"

"I'm safe," I nod. "Thank you, Callum."

I pull out my key and walk closer, and I can smell him as I unlock the door. Mm...fresh pine and leather, and something sweet.Sugarplum?I smile up at him, tempted to ask if he wants to join me, but I resist the urge as I sweep my eyes around the room.

"All clear," I say. "Good night, Callum. Thanks for keeping an eye on me."

"Good night," he says. "Sleep well, Emma."

I walk into the room and close the door behind me, feeling the tension finally start to melt away. I'm glad to be here, in this safe place where I can let my guard down. I'm not used to feeling so vulnerable, but after everything that's happened, I suppose I have a right to be cautious.

I move over to the window and look out, watching the snow gently falling outside. There's something magical about it, something that makes everything seem calm and quiet and peaceful.

But that feeling doesn't last long.As I turn to start getting ready for bed, I notice a small slip of paper on the nightstand next to the bed. It's a note, scrawled in messy handwriting.

Be careful, Emma. He's still out there.

My heart races as I read the words, and I spin around, scanning the room. But there's no one there.

I grab a chair and drag it in front of the door before I go to sleep, wedging it so the door doesn't open. I would call someone...but what if this was Callum? What if it was Inari?

I don't know who to trust.

And this started out relaxing...but as the blizzard rolls in, it turns into anything but.

Chapter three

Kai

Isthereanythingbetterthan living the dream?

I ski every day in the winter. I spend my summers as a guide around the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

And when I feel like it, I go down to the heat spa at Sanctuary Summit, and I spend hours pleasuring gorgeous omegas in heat.

Yeah...that's the dream. I could spend the rest of my life here at the Summit, and I always describe it as heaven on earth when people ask me what I think about working here. Nothing bad ever really happens.

Which is why it comes as a surprise when I'm told we have a guest I need to keep an eye on.

I'm sitting in the employee lounge, having a breakfast burrito and some coffee and reading a book, when the groundskeeper shows up and sits down next to me. I don't usually see Callum here--he's the only alpha permitted to live in the main resort--and he serves as much more than a groundskeeper. Not a lot of the guests know it, but he's sort of their bodyguard, tasked with keeping the resort as safe as could be for the omegas.

"Morning, Kai," he says, nodding his head. He's got a steaming cup of coffee in his hand, but nothing else to occupy him.

"Morning," I reply. I go back to my book, then...but he's still looking at me. "Uh...can I help you?"

Callum leans closer, his elbows on his knees. "I've got something I need to ask you."

"Go for it."

"It's confidential."

I look around, frowning. There's not really anyone else in our general vicinity. "You're starting to make me a little anxious," I mutter, putting my book down. "What's up?"

He sighs. "We've got a guest who claims she's being followed--and she's from Solstice Bay. Have you seen anything weird around here lately?"
