Callie grabs my arms as her entire body quivers. “Shit! I don’t think I can walk to the bathroom, but I need a shower. Between the Leviathan lake muck and all the sweat and sex, I gotta clean up.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve got you.” I lift her gently, cradling her to my chest as I shift the books back into the room—on a shelf, not the bed—and unlock the bathroom door with my magic. I carry Callie into the shower and turn on the water, keeping the heat low enough that it won’t scald her tender skin. She sighs and leans into me, resting her head on my shoulder.

“That feels great. Let me down, so I can wash up.”

I set her on her feet again, and this time her legs behave. Her hand shakes when she reaches for the soap, though, so I stop her.

“Let me do it.”

She nods and raises her face to the steamy spray, closing her eyes and giving over control, letting me scrub her with a soft washcloth. When I reach her groin, she spasms as I run the cloth over her still-sensitive clit. I rub her lower back to soothe her before moving on to her long legs.

Once I’ve gotten her skin clean, I take the bottle of shampoo and squeeze a bit onto my hand, massaging the sudsy concoction into her long, wet curls. She moans when I get to her scalp, reminding me that humans enjoy a light massage there. As a demon, I simply magic away any dirt or filth that gets on me; I’ve never experienced a shower, save as another location to fuck. I forget that many humans derive some pleasure from the activity, even when alone.

After rinsing the shampoo from her hair, I turn off the water and conjure a plush towel to dry her. She seems steadier on her feet now, but she still allows me to take charge, letting me pat her smooth skin dry. As for myself, I simply summon a bit of hellfire to evaporate any excess moisture on my body.

“How’s your throat?” I ask, concerned that she might be having some discomfort now that the numbing spell has likely worn off.

Callie stretches up on her toes to give me a kiss. “I’m fine. You didn’t hurt me.” Her voice comes out scratchy, and she winces a bit.

I give her a wry smile. “Would you even tell me if I did?”

She tilts her head and grins. “Probably not. But seriously, I’m okay. Honestly, I think I did more damage to myself with that screaming than You did fucking my throat.”

“Shall I summon Arman to heal you?”

“Nah.” She shakes her head and waves a hand in front of her throat, using gestures that I’m not familiar with. Carnal magic, not infernal. The air around her neck warms and glows a faint pink, and when she speaks again, the hoarseness from earlier is gone. “See? I got it handled.”

“I thought you didn’t like using carnal magic if you could avoid it.”

Callie sighs and shrugs. “Well, it’s easier to heal with that than infernal. Demonic magic isn’t generally designed to repair things. Carnal magic, since it has a basis in love and affection, lends itself better to healing.”

“Wise words.”

She gives my arm a playful shove. “Hush. And don’t You ever tell Lena I said that. She’ll never let me live it down.”

“Would you like me to warm up the food?”

After a moment of pondering, she shakes her head. “Actually, could You conjure some ice cream? Mint chocolate chip. And maybe a TV and a DVD player? I know y’all don’t exactly get WebFlicks down here, but maybe we can watch a movie tonight. Just chill for a bit. Like a real date.”

I take her hand and give her a formal bow, kissing her palm. “A chill date with you sounds divine.”

Chapter 17

Callie

Az is being so sweet to me that I almost hate to be lying to Him.

After I prove myself against the squad of envy demons, He grants me a little more freedom. I occasionally earn a walk alone along the borders of His Territory, though He still doesn’t like me wandering off further into the other regions of Hell.

He made a bit of a mistake when He took me to Leviathan’s Domain, though. Now I know where it is, and I plan to sneak off the first chance I get to confront the bastard.

I can’t let Az try to take on His Brother alone, and He’s still resistant to letting me help. My only option is to deceive Him, let Him think I’m being a good girl until He lets enough of His guard down for me to slip away.

I plan and plot for weeks before opportunity strikes.

A handful of Az’s Kids swarm the throne, clamoring about a whole fucking unit of envy demons heading straight for us. Leviathan’s not with them, but there are enough of them to stir up some shit. Az leaves me alone on the throne, heading off with dozens of His incubi and succubi to confront the approaching enemy.

I give Him about half an Earth hour before giving a few hasty orders to His remaining demons, bullshit stuff really, but it should be enough to keep them occupied for a while. They follow my commands without question, scattering to go do whatever I say. To be honest, I’m so consumed with my little plot that I have no clue what orders I gave. I could’ve told them to start a fucking pillow fight with the damned souls for all I know.
