Leviathan leans in close, distracting me. As I move to slice His throat, something snaps around my neck. The next thing I know, all my spells dissipate—including the ones clothing me and allowing me to breathe down here.

“Get her to the tower—Quickly! I can’t have My future Princess drowning before I can mate with her.”

Hands grab me all over, and as I struggle to hold my breath with all the jostling, the horde of envy demons whisks me upwards, through a new opening in the cavernous room, straight up past the water level to a high tower overlooking Leviathan’s Domain.

I try to plane shift out of there, but nothing happens. The demons cackle with glee, and one cops a feel as it dumps me on a rusty old cot with a moth-eaten cushion. Its rancid breath gags me when it leans in close to whisper in my ear, its filthy hand still squeezing my tit. I swat the hand away and pull the ratty sheet off the cot, using it as a makeshift toga to cover myself. The envy demon chuckles.

“The collar dispels any magic before you can even cast it, human. You won’t be able to get out of here unless you can fly.”

The demons all laugh as they exit through the hole in the floor, which seals itself behind them, leaving me alone and stranded in Leviathan’s Tower.

Chapter 18

Asmodeus

My Children and I dispatch Leviathan’s lackeys with ease. In almost no time, we’ve slaughtered the entirety of the force that My Brother had sent to attack us.

We return to My Throne in good spirits, until I notice a glaring absence atop the writhing seat.

Callie’s not up there.

I expand my senses to the conjured room we share. She’s not there, either.

I left her in charge. Where is she? I wave over a nearby succubus to ask if she knows when Callie left her post.

“She gave us some orders for a little while after You left, Father, then she disappeared.”

Rage boils within as I suspect what Callie’s done.“You let her leave?”My voice echoes across Hell, sending thousands of damned souls running for the far side of My Domain. Even a few hundred of My Children take steps back to distance themselves from my reach.

Similarly, My Daughter shrinks back in fear. “She slipped away, Father. We didn’t see her leave; we only noticed she had left after some time had passed. She kept us busy.”

My human glamour rips to shreds as I rapidly shift into my demonic form. My claws and fangs elongate, and I concentrate on sharpening my hooves and horns. I know where Callie went; there’s only one place in Hell she’d go to this much trouble to sneak into.

Leviathan willnotcatch me unawares.

It’s been eons since I’ve been in a proper battle. With Satan’s exorcism from My grandson, I merely provided a small amount of blood for Elena’s spell. This will be an all-out war.

With the help of some of My Sons, I don armor that hasn’t been touched since the last celestial conflict. Since Satan led us against God and His angels. My Daughters bring my swords and other weapons, and once I’m properly dressed, I order all My Children to similarly arm themselves, though a handful I pull aside and instruct to capture an envy demon and bring the miserable thing back here for questioning. I can’t fight Leviathan in His Domain without help, and since My Children left Callie unattended and allowed her to escape, it’s only right that they join me in my assault on His Castle.

“Will we march there directly, Father?” one incubus, Namir, asks as he straps on his demon-hide greaves.

“No. We will stop by the Realm of Wrath first.”

He stops mid-buckle. “Father? You’d march us through Satan’s old Territory? That land is chaos! No new ruler of Wrath has been crowned; they’re more likely to slaughter us than join our fight.”

“They will join us because my wrath is strong, strong enough to rally them. Besides, can you think of a better way to boost our forces?”

Namir raises a brow, seemingly impressed. “You make a fine point, Father. Shall I spread the word to Your other Children?”

“In due time. For now, make sure everyone is geared up. We march in one Earth hour.”

As time ticks toward my deadline, my concern for Callie’s safety grows. I know not if she’s been captured or harmed, and for some reason the lack of word from Leviathan’s Domain is more worrisome than if He’d sent minions to brag about her imprisonment. I only know for certain that if Callie were free to return to me, she would.

My answer comes when My Children return with a bound envy demon in tow. The beast snarls and fights its restraints, but the magical chains encircling it prevent it from escaping.

I march down the steps of My Throne and pick the demon up by its neck, raising it high and causing it to choke. “Where is Callie?”

The envy demon writhes in my grip, but I do not let it go.
