“Answer me!”

It goes limp, tail tucking between its bound legs. “Please, Lord Asmodeus, spare me! I did nothing to harm Callie, I swear! I only watched as my brethren took her prisoner. I have not touched a hair on her hide!”

“Where. Is. She?”

“I-in Lord Leviathan’s Castle. He had her collared with a device to block her magic, then she was brought to the tallest turret in His Palace. He’s holding her there until she complies with His will.”

I know what Leviathan’s will is, and to think of it makes me ill. I reward the envy demon’s intel with a swift death, more merciful than it deserves.

Leviathan has taken Callie’s magic. He’s locked her away, and he dares demand her obedience in His twisted desires. My fierce, independent Callie, trapped and helpless against My monstrous Brother.

To distract myself from such thoughts, I run My Children through military drills to pass the time. We practice with swords and spears, with fire and lightning and dozens of other spells. Some of My Children need the practice more than others, as incubi and succubi are made for fucking, not fighting. Few have bothered to keep up their skills since the war on Heaven ended, and of those who have, the two most decorated of My Soldiers—Samsher and Aistan—remain on Earth with Elena.

I don’t want to alert Elena to the danger Callie’s in. She’d flay me alive and boil my skinned body in the blackest of pitch before rending me limb from limb.

Then a new thought occurs, a new strategy. Leviathan no doubt expects me to march on His Domain. He expects me to fight for My Love, but he likely has forgotten Elena and her magic. Though not on a par with Callie, Elena has magical power of her own, and she’s more than resourceful with that power.

It might be a good idea to bring her into this battle.

She dispatched with Satan with minimal help from myself. Using only her own carnal magic, and a little magical aid from her fae and wolf friends, she ripped Him from her son and dispelled His Essence with more ease than any human has right to.

I take Namir to the side and instruct him to travel to the mortal realm and tell Elena and his brothers of the situation here in Hell. Elena should arrive in short order once she knows her sister is in danger. I only hope she can find someone to look after My Grandchildren in time to aid us. Not that I would put it past her to bring them with her, but I’d rather they stay safe on Earth, away from the fighting in Hell.

With Namir off to get Elena, I return to brushing up My Children’s battle skills before we march. It pleases me that the majority of My incubi and succubi seem to remember their drills, and many have even continued to sharpen their skills over the millennia. Their blades move with deadly accuracy, and their spells demolish the targets set up for practice.

When the air around us crackles with carnal energy, I brace myself for Elena’s rage.

I am not prepared for her to show up with her four incubus mates, four fae warriors, and four wolf shifters. My Sons stand around her in their demonic forms, armed to the teeth, while the fae men and Molli wear odd armor, gilded and cast in beautiful shapes that resemble the leaves and vines of the forest. The wolves, all currently in human form, wear loose track suits, clothes that can be discarded easily if they need to shift and fight.

She brought her friends.

“Elena!” I exclaim, looking at the band of Earthly heroes gathered to help rescue my mate. “If all of you are here, then who is watching My Grandchildren?”

The redheaded wolf woman, Cherry, steps forward, one hand clutching the spelled necklace that prevents demonic magic from making her sneeze. She has the oddest allergy to infernal magic. “Matt’s watching the kids, Lena’s and mine. They’re all in good hands.”

Elena nods. “He may be an Omega wolf, but he can protect them on Earth while we’re down here. Now, what’s this about Callie going off after Leviathan by herself? What kind of ideas have You been putting in her head to let that happen?”

My instinct is to defend myself, but I cannot. She’s right; I gave Callie the impression that she was ready for such an undertaking, so the blame lies squarely on my shoulders.

Molli, the white-haired human-turned-fae, gives me an odd look, her opal eyes glistening. “I don’t think Asmodeus has done anything to harm Callie, Lena. I don’t think He ever would. I actually believe His concern is genuine. He really would go to war for her.”

Her defense of me catches me by surprise. Lena’s response, however, is more on-par with her prickly personality.

“Oh, no! No, no, no, no! Don’t youdaretell me He’s soul-bound to her!” Molli shrugs, and Lena crosses her arms over her chest and glares. “This is just fucking perfect. My sister’s soulmate is the motherfucking Prince of Lust. How the hell did this happen?”

“I’m a life-touched fae, Lena. I don’t make the rules. But hey, look at it this way: I can see through their bond that she’s not hurt. She’s pissed off, but so far it seems that Leviathan hasn’t laid a hand on her.” Molli turns back to Me. “Basically, Asmodeus, I can see the connection between Your soul and Callie’s. Through that, I can gauge her general health and mood. She’s a little scared of what might happen next, a little chagrined at getting caught, but overall, she’s okay.”

Elena and I let out simultaneous sighs of relief. I don’t know what I’d do if My Brother had violated Callie in any way.

Then I remember another feature of Molli’s life fae magic, and I hurriedly pull her to the side, away from the others. “Molli … I have to ask: Can you tell if Callie is—if she’s …” My voice catches in my throat, and I try again to find my words. “Is she pregnant?”

Molli puts a hand on My arm. “Let’s focus on getting her back first.”

I don’t like that non-answer. What does she mean by that?
