Caden sits me on my feet long enough to get the shower ready and tugs me inside. He washes my body, careful not to get my hair wet, and I have to fight like hell not to start crying again. These men are wreaking havoc on my emotions, and I’m not sure if I like it or not.
Once I’m clean, we switch places, and I clean him the same way. We don’t say anything because we don’t need to. Everything is said with our actions.
After our shower, Caden leads me back to the bedroom and slips out to get dressed. Before long, we are on the road to the church where he first took me to a meeting with him. His hand is on my thigh, rubbing circles with his thumb.
I’m just getting ready to say something when he rounds the corner, and several cars are blocking the road so we can’t pass, guns aimed right at us.
“Shit!” Caden shifts into reverse and tries to back away, but cars come in behind us, effectively boxing us in. “Get down!” He pushes my head between my knees, his head swiveling trying to find a way out of this.
I’ve only seen Tink twice, but I can pick him out of all the guys standing in front of the car. “Come out, you fucking pussy!” Tink yells. “It’s time we finish this shit!”
“Firefly. I need you to listen to me,” Caden says, never taking his eyes off Tink. “I’m going to get out, and you’re going to slide into the driver’s seat and go get help. Do you understand?”
“Caden, please! There’s got to be another way!” I cry. Tears are already pouring down my face. I don’t even want to think about what will happen if they get their hands on him.
“There isn’t. Go straight to Ghost.” Caden shoves his door open, and I grab his arm to stop him.
“Please don’t do this.”
Caden’s eyes finally find mine, and he looks so fucking sad. He gently pries my hand loose, kisses my knuckles, and steps from the car. “I love you, Firefly.”
“Caden!” I yell, watching Tink’s guys roughly grab him and start pushing him toward one of the SUVs.Oh, God!How can I just drive away!?
The cars start pulling away, and I jump into the driver's seat with one thought in mind.
I have to go get help.
