“Mom, stop,” I laugh. “I’ll see you in a little bit. I love you.”

“I love you too, baby.” The call disconnects, and Bridget gives me a soft smile.

An hour later, she finishes up and bounces over to me. “I’m done. What’s next?”

I stand up and rub the back of my neck nervously. “I promised my mom we’d stop by.”

Bridget raises a brow. “That’s fine with me, but you really don’t have to drag me along. You can take me home.”

“Ha. Nice try.” I put my hand on the base of her spine and lead her to the door. I’m surprised she agreed to the bodyguard detail this morning anyway. She glared daggers through Ghost and Caden when they mentioned it until she finally relented. Bridget is smart. She knows there’s danger all around right now. She needs at least one of us with her at all times until we get Tink taken care of. Then we need to take down Grant Augustus.

I pull open the passenger side door of my car and help her inside. I stride to the driver’s side, slide inside, and fire the car up.

“God, I love that,” Bridget sighs.

I laugh, shift into first, and pull from the parking lot. “You’re turning into a car girl.”

“How can I not when I’m surrounded by hot guys in hot cars all the time?”

“If you’re a good girl today, I’ll let you drive this one.”

Bridget turns to face me. “Are you trying to make me flood my fucking panties?” I know what she says shouldn’t shock me, but I miss a fucking gear it shocks me so much. I recover quickly, and she’s laughing her ass off. “What’s wrong, Banger?” she purrs.

“I want to say that makes you a bad girl, but something tells me you’ll like getting your ass spanked,” I retort, taking the exit into downtown.

“Oh my god. Please spank my ass while you call me your bad girl.”

“Fuck,” I laugh. She’s one of the easiest people I’ve ever been around. She doesn’t let little shit get her down, and she hangs with us with no damn problem. We might want to keep her out of harm's way, but I feel like Bridget’s just what we all need. Someone who sure as fuck isn't going to put up with our shit.

We drive the rest of the way in silence, except for Bridget singing to the songs playing on the radio. I pull in front of Mom and Dad’s house, and she pushes her door open and looks at me when I make no move to get out. She slams the door shut and flops back in her seat. I finally get out. “Oh, come on!” she yells when I shut my door and move to her side. I pull hers open, and she gets out with a shake of her head. “You guys are ridiculous about the fucking doors.”

“Baby doll, if a man’s not opening your door, he’s not worth your time.”

“Don’t worry. All of you make sure I don’t.”

“Good,” I smile and push open the gate, put my hand on the small of her back, and lead her up the short walkway. I walk into the house without knocking. “Mom!”

She comes bustling around the corner and pulls me into a hug. You would never know my mom is old enough to have a child that’s twenty-nine. Her brown skin is still smooth, and she’s always mistaken as my sister even though she just celebrated her fiftieth birthday. Something she secretly loves. “Hey, baby.”

“Hey, Mom. This is Bridget. This is my mom, Ada,” I introduce.

Bridget smiles and sticks her hand out. Mom swats it away and pulls her into a hug. “We don’t shake hands around here.”

Bridget laughs. “I’m fine with that.”

“Where’s Dad?” I ask when Mom pulls back. I give her a warning look when she keeps giving Bridget the side-eye. She isn’t going to let this go.

“He’s in the living room.” We follow her that way, and Dad stands from his recliner, jerking me into a hug.

“Hey, boy.”

“Hey, Dad,” I greet and jerk my thumb at Bridget. “Bridget. This is my dad, Josh.” Dad doesn't look his age either. His blonde hair is still just as thick as I remember when I was a kid.

Mom pats him on the back when his eyes widen. “Not his girlfriend.”

Bridget giggles and then tucks her lips when I narrow my eyes at her.

We get seated on the couch while Mom and Dad sit in their matching recliners. “How’s work been?” I ask Dad.
