“Don’t tempt him, Sunshine. He’s got that crazy look in his eyes.”

Bridget snorts. “He looks like that all the time.”

I bust out laughing and choke it off when Lex glares at me. He looks slowly back to Bridget. “You would have your own space. The house can more than accommodate everyone.”

“Everyone?” Banger asks. “What does that mean?”

“It means we are safer in numbers,” Dmitri says smoothly. “We’re usually together anyway. It makes sense.”

“Aww, Lex. You want me to move in with you? I mean, it’s kind of fast, but if you want to be my sugar daddy, you can,” I joke, trying to break the tension in the room. Lex finally huffs a laugh, and I want to pump my fist in victory.

“I’ll buy you whatever you want, Lover boy.” Well, damn.

Bridget looks around the room and rolls her eyes. “Fine. But I will not stay cooped up in that house. And the minute this shit is over, I’m coming back here.”

“Done,” Lex agrees, a little too fast.

Something tells me Lex is going to fight like hell to make her stay.

Chapter 28

Banger

Thisisn’thowIsaw this conversation going when Ghost said we needed Bridget under closer protection. I’m still not sure how I got roped into moving in with Lex and D for a while. Not that I’m complaining. They are family, and after last night, I’m not letting anything happen to Bridget.

I still feel like total shit over the wreck, and I’m honestly surprised neither of the twins have killed me. Lots of threats were thrown out, but I’m glad they are actually on my side.

“Are you sure this is all you want to take?” I ask Bridget. She barely packed a couple of bags, and we are getting ready to leave for the estate.

She shrugs. “If I need anything else, I can come back and get it. Plus, this is short-term.”

I saw the look in Lex and D’s eyes. This is what they’ve been wanting, and when she tries to leave, shit’s going to hit the fan. Especially after what I heard D whisper to her last night. I’ve been around them enough to be able to pick up on a few phrases, and I’ve heard them talk to their mom.

“Okay,” I say, picking up her bags and walking toward the living room.

“Why did you say it like that?” Bridget asks, hot on my heels.

“Say it like what?”

“Like you know something I don’t.” I do, but I’m not opening that can of very fucked up worms.

“I just agreed, Baby doll.” I wait by the door while she sets the alarm and slides her shoes on. “You know we can find another way.” I see the hesitation on her face, and I don’t want her to feel like we boxed her into a corner. We all agree that we want her safe, but I want her to be comfortable with that decision. I follow her to her car after she locks the door and sets her stuff in the backseat.

“I know, but I also don’t want to be one of those girls that gets hurt because she’s too fucking stubborn to accept help. I know it isn’t safe. I’ll deal with the rest.” She tosses me her keys. “I figured you might not want to ride with me,” she laughs.

I catch them one-handed and pop her door open. “That wasn’t your fault.”

She shrugs and slides into the passenger seat without comment. I shut her door and walk to the driver’s side, my eyes going everywhere. I feel like someone’s watching us, but I chalk it up to being paranoid about the next attack. I back out of her parking spot and hit the main road. I watch Nik roll in behind us in his white Escalade and realize that we were being watched. But not by the enemy. Sneaky fucker.

“So, when was someone going to tell me you trashed my ex’s car?” Bridget asks, and I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. We haven’t had fun like that in a long time, and we were due for it.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Seriously? Tell that to the look on your face. What if I wanted to go?”

“We would have taken you,” I say without hesitation. “You should have seen his fucking face,” I laugh.

“I really hate that I missed that.”
