“We will. Let me get a feel for him today, and I’ll see what I can do.”

“Thank you,” I say, blowing out a breath. “He scared the shit out of me.”

“He talked to you, though. Something that Blaze normally doesn’t do.”

“I know. But I knew you would understand.” I hear the door open and turn to watch Jaxon walk in, still half asleep.

“I woke up, and you weren’t there.”

“I had some work to do,Litso kukly.Come here.” Jaxon comes straight to Kane and sits on his lap.Fuck.I love seeing this between them.

“What’s wrong, Eli?” Jaxon asks. I’m not sure I’m comfortable spilling everything about Blaze yet. When I hesitate, he pats Kane’s other leg. “Plenty of room.”

Kane chuckles and lifts his arm up in invitation. I sit on his other leg, face-to-face with Jaxon. “This is different,” Kane says, making Jaxon laugh.

“No wonder he calls you Daddy,” I joke, making Jaxon laugh harder.

“He’s like Daddy Claus instead of Santa Claus,” Jaxon says, making Kane growl low in his throat.

“Well, in that case, I want a bright red Maserati.”

“Oh!” Jaxon says. “I want a blue one.”

“Don’t tempt me. I’ll have them in the driveway by tonight.”

Kane kisses Jaxon, then turns to me with a question in his eyes. I take the decision away from him and seal my lips over his. He takes over quickly, thrusting his tongue in my mouth. I forgot how easy it is to get lost kissing Kane. I feel a hand on my leg and jerk back, locking eyes with Jaxon. I know he said he was okay with it, but actually seeing it might make him change his mind. My doubt goes away when he slams his lips against mine, kissing me hard. Jaxon hooks his hand on the nape of my neck and holds me closer while my hands slide up his chest.

Kane clears his throat, and we both pull back breathless. “We’ll definitely need to explore that later. Until then, Blaze and I have business to take care of. You are to go shopping, and I want to feel the dent you put in my credit card.”

Jaxon pokes his bottom lip out in a pout. “But I don’t want to go shopping.”

“Too bad. Let me spoil you.”

“You’re all I need, Kane.” Jaxon rolls his eyes when Kane just keeps staring. “Fine.”

“Khoroshiy mal’chik.”

Even though Kane eased my worry, I can’t help but think about what Blaze said.

Maybe together, the four of us, we can save him from himself.

CHAPTER12

KANE

After Blaze and I get into the limo, I can’t help but look at him after what Elijah said. He looks fine, staring out his window, but I know better.

“How bad is it, Blaze?”

“Elijah told you, didn’t he?” I see his shoulders tense, and he still won’t turn to look at me.

“He was worried.”

The silence goes on for so long that I figure he won’t answer me until he lets out a shuddering sigh. “You know when you’re in a crowded room, and everyone is talking at the same time?” He turns in his seat and leans against the door. “That’s what my head sounds like. Except they’re all talking to me.”

“What else?” I’ve always been able to read Blaze like a book, and this is more than just the voices.

“Sometimes I hear my mom.”
