“Of course I do,” Kane answers without missing a beat. “I watch all of my investments.”

“I’ve been loyal to you!”

“Why do you look so nervous then?” I ask, starting to circle him. “You look seconds from puking. Why is that?”

“I’m not nervous. I just don’t like my business interrupted.”

“Mybusiness,” Kane reminds him. “You might run your own team, but I run you. You don’t do anything without my permission. Do you need a reminder of that?”

“Don’t you think it’s time you got off my goddamn back?”

I whistle but don’t stop my circling. It’s making him even more nervous, and I can’t wipe the crazy grin from my face. “I don’t think so. I think you’re a slimy coward who would throw Kane under the largest bus given half the fucking chance.” I lean in close to his ear. “I don’t trust you.”

“No one cares what you think.” Before I can react to that, Kane moves. He wraps his hand around Lev’s neck and slams him against the concrete wall, making his head bounce.

“I care what he thinks. You’ve been warned to watch your mouth concerning Blaze. I won’t tell you again.”

“You could have me at your side,” Lev wheezes. “Your own family, but you chose him instead.”

“We aren’t family,” Kane spits. “You are a distant cousin that I have no intention of claiming. You’re weak, and I’d choose him a thousand times over. Now tell me what the shipment was.”

Lev shakes his head. “We haven’t gotten anything for weeks. Which you’re aware of. I wouldn’t hide anything from you.”

Kane squeezes his throat in warning one more time before stepping back. “You better hope not. Because if I find out you did, I’ll be back and my mood will be much worse.”

We leave without another word, and Kane is already on the phone when we slide back into the limo.

“Hello?” Diego answers.

“Did you give me a bad tip? I really hate to think what would happen if you did.”

“Of course not, Boss. I saw it myself, and I’d never lie to you.” Kane looks at me to see what I think, and I shake my head no. I don’t think Diego would betray us.

“Did you have eyes on him last night?”

“I did, but I found out that they were slacking on the job. I just got done taking care of them. From now on, I’ll sit on him myself.”

“I don’t have to remind you what’s on the line?”

“No, Sir. I’m actually headed that way now. I should be there in about two minutes.”

“I want updates if he even sneezes wrong.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Kane disconnects the call and instructs Dalton to take us back home. I feel the excitement coursing through my veins and pull out my phone to text Jaxon.

This is when we find out if he really can handle this life.

CHAPTER19

JAXON

Blaze

Go to the playroom and undress. Eli will meet you there. Once he’s done with what I want…present.

Yes, Sir.
