Eli shakes his head and takes a shuddering breath. “No, but he won’t talk to me. It’s like he’s locked inside his head. His eyes are blank, and he’s just mumbling under his breath.”

My heart starts hammering in my chest, and I stride to the nightstand. Snatching up my phone, I dial Diego.

“Hello?”

“Where’s Jaxon?”

“In his room.”

“Are you sure?” I can feel the panic starting to set in. I knew I shouldn’t have believed Blaze when he said he wouldn’t go after Jaxon. I trained Blaze, so I know he can get in and out of anywhere without being noticed. It’s like he has some sort of sixth sense about where people are.

“Yes. I just took him breakfast. What’s going on?”

My breath whooshes from my lungs, and I slump down on the bed. “Was Blaze there last night?”

Diego chuckles nervously. “I didn’t know it until I woke up this morning with a bunch of dead guards. I looked at the security footage, and he was here with Jaxon for several hours.”

“Diego, I don’t have to tell you what will happen to you if he gets hurt under your watch, yes?”

“I’ve tightened security, and I’m upgrading the perimeter alarms. I’m sorry, Kane.”

I disconnect the call and turn to Eli. “He’s way past gone, Kane,” he says quietly. “I’ve never seen him like this.”I have. But Eli doesn’t need to know that.

I stand from the bed and slide my boxers on. Reaching for Eli, I grab his hand and lead him upstairs to their room. I push onto the balcony, and Blaze is sitting there just like Eli said. “Blaze.” No answer. He doesn’t even blink. With a sigh, I grab his hands and pull him to his feet. I lead him to the bathroom, and he shuffles behind me like a zombie. “Give us some time,Dragotsennyy.” Eli kisses Blaze’s cheek and shuts the bathroom door behind him.

I turn the shower on and tug Blaze to step inside, getting in behind him. Pushing him back in the spray, I grab his body wash and squirt some onto a washcloth. The blood is completely dried to his skin, and I have no idea where it came from. When he killed Diego’s guards, the blood would be all over his clothes, not his body. “I don’t know what’s going on inside your head right now,Moya lyubov’,but I need you to come back to me.” I scrub his skin, watching the blood swirl down the drain. “Where did this come from, Blaze?”

Blaze looks at me with cold, dead eyes. “Jaxon.”

“It’s not Jaxon’s.” Blaze’s brows furrow. “I called Diego. Jaxon is fine.” I need to know what happened with Jaxon last night, but Blaze isn’t in any condition to tell me. “I need you to think, Blaze. Where did the blood come from?”

“I don’t know.”Shit.My mind is swirling with the possibility that I’m going to have to clean up after one of his killing sprees. Again.

“It’s okay,Moya lyubov’,” I soothe when he whimpers quietly. I watch his face closely and see the moment he starts fighting the voices. “Listen to my voice. Don’t give them the power.” I drop the washcloth, cup his cheeks, and watch his eyes flutter closed. “You’re stronger than them, Blaze. Prove it to them.”

Something about that statement has Blaze’s eyes flashing open. He shoves me out of the way and storms from the shower. “Blaze!” I call out, scrambling behind him. “Yebat.Blaze!”

He whirls around to face me in the bedroom. “You talked to him, didn’t you? You’re working against me!”

“What are you talking about,Moya lyubov’?”

“Don’t call me that!” Blaze shoves his hands into his hair and tugs. “They said this would happen.”

“Blaze. What would happen?”

“They said if I kept fighting them, it would get worse. You’re going to lock me up somewhere, aren’t you? Aren’t you?!” Blaze yells so loud that several of my guards bust into the room seconds later. I hold my hand up to stop them.

“I’m fine. Get out.”

“Sir–”

“I said get the fuck out.” I wait until they leave and turn back to Blaze. “I told you I’d never lock you up, and I meant that.”

“You’re a fucking liar!” Blaze comes at me full force, hitting me in the midsection. We hit the floor hard, and I’m at a loss on what to do. Blaze wraps his hand around my throat, squeezing. I refuse to hurt him, so I lock my hands into fists at my sides. “You’ve been trying to find a reason for years. This shit with Jaxon is what you needed to send me over the edge.”

“Blaze,” I say gently. “What happened with Jaxon was real. I’d never set you up like that. You don’t deserve to be locked up. You deserve to be by my side. Fight against them,Moya lyubov’.”

Blaze’s hand loosens and tightens a few times. He makes a noise that rips my heart in two. “I don’t think I can anymore. They’re so loud. When I went to see Jaxon last night, I was going to kill him.” Blaze lets my throat go and scoots off my legs, wrapping his arms around his own. He looks exactly like that scared little boy I got off the streets. I sit up, but I don’t reach for him. Not yet. “I couldn’t, though. I’ve never second-guessed myself, but I did with him.”
