“Look, Kane isn’t going to care if you have me.” He backhands me across the face, making me swing in the chains.

“Stop talking. None of this would have happened if he would have kept his rabid dog on a leash.” Rabid dog? “He ran through my warehouse a couple of weeks ago and slaughtered more than a dozen guards.”

“Who did?” He nods, and I feel someone walk up behind me.

“Blaze.”

“I don’t understand what this has to do with me.” The punch comes before I even know what’s going on. He hits me right in the kidney, and I grit my teeth.

“Because I need you to teach Kane a lesson.” Another punch, right to the ribs. “He thinks just because he carries the last name Lyubava, he can do whatever he wants. It’s time to take back what’s mine.”What’s his? This guy has to be delusional.

“Who are you?” I gasp.

“My name is Lev Sokolov.” He says it proudly, and when I give him a blank stare, his face turns blood red. I wrack my brain trying to remember anything about Lev. All I can remember is he’s related to the Lyubavas but weak. Kane apparently felt sorry for him and gave him some land to build on.

The guy behind me starts wailing on me, hitting me all over my sides and stomach. I grit my teeth for as long as I can, but when I feel one of my ribs crack, I finally scream. My arms keep twisting at an odd angle, and I keep waiting for one of the bones to snap. He finally lets up, and I sag, breathing heavily.

“Keep going,” Lev orders. “Make sure you mess up his pretty boy face.”

“What is this supposed to prove?!”

“When I call Kane and tell him what I have, he’ll give me what I want.”

I can’t help but laugh. “Were you not listening? Kane doesn’t give a fuck about me. All he’s going to do is kill you.”

“I think you’re lying.”

“And I think you’re an idiot.”

I don’t see the knife until it slices right down the side of my face. I have no clue what to do even though I’ve been trained for this. It’s like everything I was taught left my brain the moment I was grabbed. All I can think about is Kane and what this means for him. He’s going to annihilate Lev’s entire empire.

I just hope I’m alive to see it.

CHAPTER26

BLAZE

Useless.

Useless.

Useless.

I roll over and bury my head under the pillows, trying to drown the voices out. They went from telling me to kill Jaxon to telling me I’m useless because I failed. They don’t understand that Ican’tkill him.

After my breakdown on Kane a few weeks ago, I’ve wracked my brain trying to figure out where the blood came from. But I have no damn idea. I haven’t been able to do shit since then, either. The voices get so loud whenever I try that I want to rip my brain out. Maybe I should just lock myself up and save Kane the trouble.

“Blaze?” I peek out at Eli’s soft voice, and he climbs onto the bed. “You want to get up today?”

“No.”

“Come on. We can take a bath together.” I roll over so I can face him. “I miss you.”

My heart fucking sinks because I know that I’m neglecting him, but I can’t get certain parts of me to work. “I miss you too, Sweetheart. Why don’t you go find Kane?” Eli’s face starts turning pink, and I prop myself on my elbow. “What’s that about?”

“I, uh, already found Kane.”

I lace our fingers together just to touch him in some capacity. “Tell me.”
