“Blaze, take a team and search the back. I’ve got the front.”

My hand freezes on the handle. “We’re splitting up. We never do that.”

“I don’t have time to argue with you. Do what I said.”

This is it. If we split up, I’ll never see the hit coming. I was right all along, and this is how Kane will finally get me out of his life. I nod even though my heart is shattering and jerk the door open. I grab a group of guys closest to me and move toward the back of the warehouse. Even though I knew this time was coming, it still hurts so goddamn much, but I’m still going to find Jaxon for Kane. I just wish I could have told Elijah goodbye.

I fight through guards with only one thought in mind.Kill, kill, kill.Stealth is out of the question because Kane wants to make a statement. Every time one of them hits the floor, I get flashes of those weird memories. I’ve killed plenty for Kane, but never like this. I stab the next guy, and my whole heart seizes in my chest.

It’s your fault.

You can’t control yourself.

You did this.

Killing Lev’s guards comes roaring to the surface. After I left Jaxon, I was lost, and the voices were leading me. I ended up at one of the Lev’s hangouts and snuck inside. Everything else is a blur, but now I remember killing all the guards there in a blind rage because I couldn’t kill the one person that I was supposed to. Kane must know, and that’s why he split us up. I deserve whatever he does to me.

“Blaze,” Diego hisses, grabbing my arm. “Do you hear that?”

I snap back to the present and realize my knife is still in this guy’s neck. I jerk it free and listen.Screaming.“It’s coming from back there.”

“I don’t know what’s going on right now, but Kane isn’t going to kill you.”

“What?”

“You said Kane was going to kill you.”

The screams get louder, and I start moving without answering. I can feel it in my bones that it’s Jaxon. I count down from three on my fingers, and when the last finger drops, I jerk the door open, and we spill in. The guy standing over a body takes in what he’s up against and runs toward the other door. “GET HIM!” I order, and two guys take off after him.

I run to the back of the room and skid to a stop when I see Jaxon lying there. I drop to my knees, my hands fluttering over his body with no idea what to do. “Baby,” I whisper. His face is a bloody mess, as is his chest. He’s curled into a ball with arms wrapped around his legs. “Please look at me.” I hear talking in the background and block it out. All of my focus is on the man in front of me. “Baby.”

One of his swollen eyes cracks open, and he winces in pain. “Sir.” His words are slurred, and it makes me even more fucking murderous. “You came for me.”

“Of course we did.” I tuck my knives away, jerk my jacket off, and gently lay it over him. “We need to move you, Baby. I’m so sorry.” Jaxon nods and closes his eyes tight. I slide my arms under him, and when I go to stand, he screams so loud that my ears ring. “I’m sorry. We’re going to get you home and take care of you.” I pull him against my chest and start moving as carefully as I can.

“It hurts,” Jaxon whispers.

“I know,” I soothe. “We have a doctor waiting for you at Kane’s.”

Diego opens the door, and Kane comes running around the corner. He stops dead in his tracks when he sees Jaxon in my arms.“Litso kukly,” Kane says hoarsely. He gently brushes the hair off Jaxon’s forehead. A ragged sob leaves Jaxon, and I look at Kane in panic. “Get him to the car. Now.”

I jerk a nod and fall in line behind Zuko and his team. They cover us the whole way out, and I slide into the limo with Jaxon clutched to my chest. When I sit down, he bites off another scream. Kane gets in beside me, and Dalton takes off. “Doc sent me with a sedative,” Dalton says. “It’s in the bag.” Jaxon’s sobs are wracking his body, and I know he’s in an immense amount of pain.

Kane digs through a bag and pulls out a syringe. “This will help, Jaxon. We’ll be home soon.” Kane uncaps the syringe and stabs it into Jaxon’s thigh. Within seconds, he slumps against me asleep, his entire body relaxing.

I pull one arm out from under him and rub my thumb against his plump bottom lip. “I know what you have to do. Please just let me make sure he’s okay first.”

“What are you talking about?” Kane squeezes Jaxon’s calf, relief and anger all over his face.

“It’s my fault this happened.”

“What?” Kane demands, his eyes snapping to my face.

“I killed Lev’s men. That’s where all the blood came from. Just let me make sure he’s okay, and then you can kill me.”

“Blaze,” Kane says, sounding tired. “We’ll discuss this later.”

“But Kane—”
