Tomorrow, I’ll get Kane back on board.

I don’t care what the repercussions are anymore.

CHAPTER28

KANE

First thing this morning, I called every contact that I have to find Lev, and no one has seen him. He’s gone so deep underground because he knows what’s coming to him.

Getting that phone call that he had Jaxon is one of the worst I’ve ever gotten, aside from the phone call about Kira. Seeing him broke my fucking heart in more ways than one. I’m still bitter about his betrayal and then to see him in that condition. I have no idea what to do about Blaze, either. With a sigh, I pick up the phone and call the one other person that I trust.

“Hello?” Kira’s sweet voice filters through the line.

“Hey, baby sister.”

“What’s wrong, Kane?”

“Why do you think something is wrong?”

“Because you have that sound in your voice. So tell me.” I sit back in my office chair and spill everything. The rundown of my relationship with Jaxon, what we started with Blaze and Eli, what Jaxon did, and how we found him. Kira is quiet for a minute, taking in what I said. “Wow. Okay. Talk about an information dump.”

I chuckle despite myself. “It’s been a long couple of months.”

“Sounds like it. So, I’m guessing you’re calling me about Jaxon and not what to do about Lev?”

“I don’t know what to do, Kira.”

“What Jaxon did is fucked up, but he just took a beating for you. And from what you said, he didn’t give the cops anything, or you’d be in jail by now.”

“He still betrayed me.”

“I’m not saying that he didn’t, but I think that changed once he got involved with you.”

“Or this is still just a part of the plan.”

“Kane,” Kira sighs. “He wouldn’t have let Lev lay a hand on him if that was the case. He would have flipped on you quicker than you can blink to save his own ass. I saw him, and I saw the look in his eyes. You can’t fake that.”

“He lied to me, and I missed it.”

“Did you ever think you missed it because he wasn’t trying very hard to take you down? Kane, you opened up a part of yourself you never had before when you brought Jaxon to see me. Don’t throw that away because of this. I know it’s going to take some time to trust him again, but you need to try. I don’t want you to end up bitter and angry like Dad, and you will if you let him go.”

“I miss you.” I have no idea what to say to her because she’s right. I need to get my head on the same page as my heart, and that’s going to take time, but she opened my eyes to things I never thought of.

“I miss you too. I have good news, and I was about to call you, but I understand if this is a bad time.”

“What’s your news?”

“I’m ready to come home.” My heart starts pounding in my chest, and so many thoughts run through my head. I’ve wanted nothing more than to bring Kira home, but right now, it’s dangerous. “I can stay here if you don’t want me—”

“Absolutely not. I want you home. I’ll send a car for you.”

“Can you send Blaze?”

I swallow the lump in my throat. “Blaze isn’t…well right now.”

“What do you mean?”

“They’re bad, Kira. The worst I’ve ever seen them.” Except for when he’s with Jaxon. “I’ll send Dalton. I can’t wait to see you.”
