I leave the room before I say what I really want to say.

Before I tell him how much I love him, too.

“Kane!” I jump from the couch when I hear Kira’s voice echo through the foyer. I scoop her into my arms when I step around the corner.

“It’s so good to have you home.”

“It’s good to be home.” She pecks my cheek, and I set her on her feet. “Where’s everyone?”

“Blaze is upstairs with Jaxon. Eli ran into town for work.”

“Have you made things right with Jaxon?”

“Kira, you just got home. Can we talk about anything else?”

She drags me into the living room, shoves me to sit on the couch, and then flops beside me. “No, we can’t. I’m home, and I’m not going anywhere. Well, except to the poolhouse because I’m not getting scarred by whatever is going on here.” She grins at me, and I can’t help but smile back. “Anyway, I’m not letting you pass up a chance at love because you’re hard-headed.”

“It’s more than that.”

She grabs my hand. “I know it is, but look at what he endured for you. I think Jaxon got in too deep and didn’t know how to get out once he realized what he had. On that note, I’m going to see him.” She jumps from the couch, leaving me shaking my head and following her up the stairs.

“Honey, I’m home!” she announces, walking into the room. Blaze springs from the bed, and she jumps into his arms with a laugh. He swings her around the room. “Hey, Blaze!”

“Hello, my favorite girl in the world.” He sets her on her feet. “It’s so good to see your face.”

“Yours too.” She looks at the bed and smiles at Jaxon. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

She climbs onto the bed, leaning against the headboard beside him. “I heard you got your ass kicked.”

Jaxon barks a laugh and then groans in pain. Blaze is on the bed in a flash, looking him over. “Are you okay, Baby?” Kira turns wide eyes on me, and I shrug. I’ve never been able to explain Blaze. There’s no use in trying to start now.

“I’m fine, Blaze. It’s just my ribs.”

“Do you need pain meds? I’ll go grab them.” Blaze rushes from the room before Jaxon can argue.

“What. The. Hell. Was that?” Kira asks, looking between me and Jaxon. “Soft Blaze is scarier than scary Blaze.”

Jaxon chuckles. “Blaze is scary in any form. But he likes taking care of me.” Even though he didn’t aim it at me, I feel like shit because it should be me taking care of him. I just don’t know how right now. I walk to the chair in the corner, and Jaxon’s eyes follow me until I sit. He looks back to Kira. “I’m happy you’re home. What made you change your mind?”

“You.” That gets my attention. How the hell did Jaxon change her mind, and why didn’t I know about it? “After you called that day, I talked to my therapist, and we decided it would be good for me to be around family.” She hooks her arm through Jaxon’s and carefully lays her head on his shoulder. “I wanted to thank you for what you said.”

Jaxon kisses the top of her rainbow beanie. “You’re welcome.”

My heart settles in my chest for the first time since I found out the truth. Seeing Jaxon with my sister and knowing he helped me bring her home changes how I’m going to handle him.

I’m going to make sure he knows I’ll never let him go again.

CHAPTER29

JAXON

Iwake up from a nap, hot as hell. I try to roll over and encounter a hard body. I look up, and Blaze is leaning against the headboard, scrolling through his phone. When he sees me awake, he runs his fingers through my hair.

“Are you okay?”
