Blaze laughs, and it’s the best sound in the world. “Food’s ready.”

Jaxon goes to get up, and I grab his arm to stop him. “Bring him a plate, Blaze.”

Blaze shrugs and leaves the room, returning minutes later. He sets the food in front of Jaxon and flops in the chair in front of my desk. “We need to talk business.”

Jaxon’s head whips around to look at me. “I can go to the kitchen. I know you don’t tru—”

I silence him with a kiss. “Eat, and we’ll talk.” This is the first step in proving to myself that I can trust him. He’ll get to see the inner workings of my empire and be a part of it with me. I want him to stand proudly by my side, not behind me.

Blaze raises a brow and relaxes in his chair. “I called some contacts while I was cooking. No one has seen Lev or his inner circle.”

“I still think I have someone else working for the cops on the inside.” That’s something that I can’t get out of my head, even after I found out about Jaxon. “What all did they tell you?”

“Everything, I assume,” Jaxon answers between bites. “They had multiple files on all of you.”

“Did they know about Blaze?”

Jaxon nods. “Yeah.”

“That’s not public knowledge,” Blaze points out. “It’s not like I’ve ever been clinically diagnosed. It has to be someone who works here.”

“Who, though? We interrogated all of the staff here.”

“Past employees?” Jaxon asks.

“Baby, people don’t just get to quit when they leave Kane.”

I watch Jaxon’s face closely as he lets that sink in. With a shrug, he goes back to eating. Blaze and I share a look because we know we’re pushing him, but we need to know if he can be the man we think he can be. “It has to be someone right under our noses,” I continue. “Someone we’d never expect.” Jaxon’s shoulders tense at that, and I massage his hip to let him know that wasn’t aimed at him. “We’ll start the interrogations again. Maybe we missed something.”

“I’m down for that,” Blaze says, propping his feet on my desk.

“Blaze,” I warn. “Get your goddamn feet down.”

Jaxon chuckles. “You tell him, Daddy.”

“Now that I know you’re healed, don’t think I won’t bend you over my fucking knee.”

“Oh, please do it. He’s turning into a bratty little shit.”

“I didn’t hear you complaining when I was riding you last night,” Jaxon retorts.

“That’s because you were coming so hard that you couldn’t see straight. You know my cock hits that right spot every time.”

I clear my throat when Jaxon goes to open his mouth. “We need to get back on task. And Blaze, feet. Now.”

“Fine,” Blaze grumbles, dropping them to the floor with a thud.

“We need a plan for Jaxon and the department,” I say. “He can’t just quit and then show up in public with us. They’ll hound him relentlessly.”

“What else can I do?” Jaxon asks quietly. “I can’t keep doing check-ins without information, or they’ll get suspicious. I don’t want them breathing down your neck.”

“I’m not worried about me.”

“I am,” Jaxon says hotly. “They have too much on you as it is. I won’t be the reason they get any fucking more. Let me quit, announce my allegiance to you, and take on the heat.”

“Absolutely not,” Blaze and I say at the same time.

“Or we can go talk to Captain Carls,” I suggest. “All three of us. We need to show him that he didn’t fucking win.”
