“If I didn’t enjoy that sound so much, I’d punish him.” Kane turns me around in his arms and grabs my face. “You don’t have anything to prove to me,Litso kukly.I’m ready to move on from what happened.”

“I need to prove it tome. He needs to die for what he’s done.”

“But you don’t need to be the one who does it. I’m supposed to be protecting you.”

“And sometimes you need someone to protect you other than Blaze. I’m more than just your submissive. I’m strong no matter what these scars say.”

“You’re not just a submissive to me, and those scars show that you lived through something awful. Why don’t you save the payback for them, yes?”

I shake my head and grab his wrists. “I need to do this. For you and me.”

Kane kisses me slowly and pulls back. “I’ll be right in there if you need me.”

I watch Kane walk into the observation room with Blaze and turn back to Captain Carls. It doesn’t take long before he’s groaning and waking up. He jerks against the chains when he realizes he’s tied up, and his eyes flash to me. “Is this what you’ve turned into?”

I shrug, trying not to show an ounce of remorse. “You turned me into this person.”

“You can’t blame this on me! I set you up for a career of a lifetime, and you blew it!”

I pull a chair over to sit in front of him. Lowering myself into the chair, I make sure he sees the knife. I run my finger across the top of the blade and then point at him with it. “You weren’t worried about my career. You were worried about yours. How in the hell did you ever thinkyoucould take down Kane when so many before you couldn’t?”

“I had an insider that they never had before.”

“Who?”

Carls laughs. “You really think I’m going to tell you? You’re going to kill me anyway, so I have nothing left to lose.”

“But you do.” I brace my hands on the side of the chair and lift my leg. I kick forward, hitting him right in the ribs with my boot, making him swing in the chains. “You have a wife and daughter.” It’s a bluff because we’d never touch them, but he doesn’t know that.

“They have nothing to do with this!”

“You put them in the middle when you fucked us over,” I hiss. “We have people watching them right now. All it will take is one word, and they’ll die for what you did.”

“We? You’re really aligning yourself with those fucking monsters?”

I kick again, making sure I hit the same spot. Carls howls in pain this time, and I don’t want to admit how much I enjoy the sound. “They may be monsters, but they’remymonsters. I’d choose them any day of the week. So, what’s your answer? Tell me who the leak is, or I kill your family.”

I watch Carls struggle with his decision which is fucking sad. If it were me, I’d choose family over an informant. He stares at me for a solid two minutes, refusing to answer. I jump to my feet, pull my phone from my pocket, and act like I’m dialing. “Wait!”

“Tell me.”

“I don’t have a name.”

“Bullshit,” I spit. I shove the phone back in my pocket and hold the knife to his throat. Fear shines bright in his eyes, and I grin. “I bet you never thought we’d be here after you approached me. What did you say to me? Oh, yeah. You said you’ll have a bright future, kid. I do. Just not in the way either of us thought. Here’s what you don’t know about the men here. They’d die to protect the ones they love. Yet, you’re willing to let your family die to hide a fucking rat.”

“I don’t have a goddamn name! It goes much deeper than me. It’s all anonymous.”

“How do you access the information?”

“A secure server. We communicate through that.”

“What’s the server?”

“I’m not telling you anything else. Do what you have to do.”

“I could always bring your daughter here so you can watch the life drain from her eyes. What is she? Twelve or thirteen? She hasn’t even had a chance to live yet.”

“You’re a fucking psycho!”
