“Okay then. I’ll leave it alone.”

The tension was still thick between us when she flashed me a smile and added, “He looks sexy as hell in black and I already know you’re gonna shut it down so I’m not mad at him being your plus one at the wedding. You know my optics have to be on point.”

I rolled my eyes hard. Ezekiel did look sexy as hell in all black. The suit he’d worn turned heads all night.

“Don’t roll your damn eyes. I know he’s one of many reasons you kept your ass in Crescent Falls. If he’s notthereason, he’s near the top of the list.”

She lifted her phone and checked the time.

“I need to get going. Jessup just texted and told me he’s downstairs.”

“You didn’t drive?”

“Girl, no. You know I don’t fuck with LA traffic like that. But stop looking crazy. Dre isn’t with him. Come walk me downstairs.”

As demanded per Ezekiel I made sure they billed our food to the suite then Malin and I took the elevator to the lobby. We hugged and made promises about seeing each other soon. I stood in the lobby, watching until she was no longer in view before I turned to head back to the elevators. The sound of a familiar voice halted my steps.

“What’s good, Jhorie?” My eyes swung toward the bar where I noticed Dre’thon approaching me. I glanced at the exit and he smirked.

“This ain’t on her. She didn’t know I was here so she ain’t betray you if that’s what you’re thinking. Jessup told me you were meeting here for lunch.”

That was exactly what crossed my mind so I was grateful to know she hadn’t lied to me.

“You know what I find interesting?” he stated casually, like we were old friends catching up.

“No, but I’m sure you’re going to tell me.”

He smiled in that wildly handsome way that used to make my heart react far differently than it did now. When he was inches from me, he lowered his chin and glared at me. “That smart ass mouth was always a problem. That shit is gonna be your downfall one day, Jay.”

“Or maybe I’ll be with a man who respects a woman with her own thoughts and opinions instead of wanting one that stands by his side, smiles, and only talks when he wants to hear her voice.”

He inched closer, ignoring my statement. “What I find interesting is that you were forever talking shit about how money didn’t matter and you wanted a nigga who was gonna be serious about you and wife yo’ ass. Yet here you are in this expensive ass hotel, spending another nigga’s money in place of mine, and that nigga damn sure ain’t gon’ wife you ’cause he already got one at home. I might not have been in a rush to marry you, Jay, but I wasn’t hoein’ you out either. I would think you’re better than that.” He smirked. “But maybe not.”

I smacked the shit out of him, hitting him so hard my palm stung from the impact. He grabbed my arm and pulled me to him. “I’m only here to be sure you know there ain’t no coming back. When that nigga decides he got his money’s worth and steps, don’t think you’re circling back to me.”

“Even if that were the case I would never.”

“Yeah, aight.” He smirked and tightened the grip on my arm. “I was good to you, Jay. You would have known that if you weren’t so busy trying to rush me to marry yo’ ass. I never cheated. I gave you a good life. In fact, I might need to drag you up to one of these rooms to getmymoney's worth since you're handing out pussy so freely for any man with deep pockets.”

I snatched away from him and shoved my finger into his face. “I never rushed you to marry me but if I’m wrong for expecting you to keep the promises you made about me being more than the woman you liked to show off and fuck then I made the right decision by leaving.”

“I want that shit, but not now. I told you to give me time.”

“How much time, Dre? Five years, ten, fifteen?”

“Shit, maybe. I’m out here trying to do my thing. A wife and kids don’t fit right now.”

“Then you shouldn’t have wasted my time pretending that was what you wanted and we could have ended this a long time ago.”

“I told you whatever you needed to hear to shut the fuck up and play your role. One you weren’t even good at.”

I tried to smack him again but he caught my wrist and pulled me into his chest. “You better watch your fucking hands.”

“Let. Me. Go.”

“Nah, I kinda like having you close again, even if it's only for one thing.”

I yanked hard and when he didn’t let me go, I slapped him again. I was fully prepared to fight this man if I had to but another familiar voice washed over me.
