Well, she wasn’t about to let that challenge go unanswered. “I don’t like it. I’d like to see you try.”

Of course, he had to. The woman was just demanding it. He was just caveman enough to want to carry his woman off right now, too.

“Char, you just keep Sydney out of trouble for the rest of the night, then. Zoey’s mine now.” Murdoch made his move. He had his woman slung over his shoulder in an instant. “Don’t move. We’re going to go talk.”

“It’s calledtalkingnow,” Charlotte said to Sydney. “I will remember that.”

“I can walk,” Zoey hissed at him, as everyone just stared for a moment. “Give me some pride, you ass.”

“Nope. You are not getting away again, now that I have you.” He carried her off to the elevator. He was going to enjoy what happened next. He’d make sure she did, too. “We need to talk.”

“Put me down, you idiot!”

“This is going to be so much fun to watch.”

Of course, that Beck kid couldn’t keep her mouth shut. She needed more keepers than she already had.

“A little help here!” Zoey practically yelled. “Girl solidarity!”

Murdoch shot the pair of redheads a glare. Sydney shrugged. “Enjoy yourself, Zo!”

Charlotte just laughed like a demon-possessed little lunatic.

“You are all traitors! Murdoch, you asshole. Put me down!”

“Nope. Not happening until I have you behind a closed door you can’t escape.” He cupped her ass in one hand to keep her still. He pushed the button to the elevator. He wasn’t about to carry her up a flight of stairs like this. The woman was just contrary enough to send them tumbling down the stairs and kill them both. “We have some talking to do, lady. I think we have waited long enough.”

The elevator doors dinged and slid open. Revealing three men inside. Murdoch just stared at them in challenge.

Murdoch Lake was always goingto be full of surprises. No denying that. The man carried her right by her unwanted brothers and waved at them. “Excuse us. We have…some things todiscuss. You, unwanted brother number one—stay the hell away from Sydney, or I’ll gut you like a fish. She deserves better than the likes of you and always will.”

The Davis brothers just watched as the elevator doors slid shut.

Zoey thought about twisting away. Then did just that.

Until they were face to face—and he was looking at her like he was starving. The elevator door opened, he grabbed her hand. And off they went. To room 208.

The first thing that was going to happen when she got behind closed doors with him was a slap upside his head. He was never going to do that to her again. “You idiot. You ass.”

He lowered her to her feet, right there in the hallway.

Then hard hot hands were around her waist, and she was lifted off her feet again and being devoured. His lips covered hers. Somehow her back was pressed against the door and the scent of Murdoch surrounded her. The door opened behind her, and he was guiding her inside.

She thought about protesting his high-handedness.

But who the hell cared how he’d gotten her alone?

They were alone, and that was what mattered.

He was there, his arms were around her, and there was nothing to stop them from doing what her heart was telling her to do with him right now.

She’d seen the hurt on Sydney’s face. Heard the truth in Sydney’s words when she’d saidthisman was exactly what he seemed. No hidden secrets. No hate in his heart. He was just a man living his life on his terms. Honest and honorable and trustworthy.

Real.
