I could’ve just listened.

I couldn’t deny that there was a part of me that craved–that wanted–the punishment.

My ass was sore but I could feel myself getting wet again thinking about Teo’s hands on me. “Yes,” I replied. “I’m sure.”

Jace frowned, his blue eyes serious. “And you didn’t want to ask him to stop last night?” he asked as if he didn’t believe me.

I shook my head, feeling a flush creep up my cheeks. “No,” I admitted. “I didn’t.” I took another sip of coffee, trying to calm my racing heart. This conversation was getting dangerously close to territory that could land us all in trouble.

Jace must have sensed my discomfort because he straightened and nodded gravely. “Okay,” he said. “Well, just so you know, if you ever need me to interfere, maybe we should come up with a signal.”

I held back the urge to laugh. Good, sweet Jace. It still blew my mind that he ended up as part of this gang sometimes. “I don’t think that will be necessary, but I’ll keep that in mind. In case it is.”

“Good,” he said. “No offense, but Teo can be a dick.”

“I’m not offended. He can be.”

“Speaking of that,” he said. “There’s a briefing in half an hour with all of us. We need to, you know, figure out everything that happened last night. So we can go through it together.”

“Alright. I’ll be there in a bit,” I said. “I just need a few moments to, you know, process.”

As Jace left the room, I let out a deep sigh. The memories of last night flooded my mind with a mix of emotions. I had never expected to find myself in this situation. But here I was, caught in the middle of a powerful and dangerous gang, worried about my safety and my brother’s life, in legal trouble...my mom would be so proud of me, I thought with a grimace.

At least she wasn’t here to see what I had turned into.

I took a deep breath, trying to push the thoughts of my family out of my mind. I couldn’t afford to dwell on them right now. I needed to focus on the present and deal with the situation at hand.

Because, more than anything, I wanted to stay alive.

Chapter Two: Jace

Theatmosphereintheroom was...awkward. Things had been awkward before between us, sure, we hadn’t always worked together and we needed some time to get used to each other.

It had never felt like this before.

Things had never been ‘our boss spanked his girlfriend and then his right-hand man fucked her so hard we all heard her’ levels of awkward, though. Teo looked a bit worse for wear, with dark shadows under his eyes, but that was just him. I knew he hadn’t gotten much sleep, what with Sofia still being with us and all.

I didn’t know how he was holding it together. Because I sure as hell wasn’t.

Grayson’s gaze lingered on me for a long second. “Where’s Sofia?” he asked.

“She’ll be here in a minute,” I said. “She’s just…getting ready for the day.”

“There’s a lot to talk about,” Teo said. “Will she actually be here?”

“It’s not like she has anywhere else to go,” Grayson answered him. Teo glared at him, pressing his lips tightly together, his jaw hardening.

Grayson tapped one of the beers he had on the table. “Drinks?” he asked, even as he unscrewed the cap and took a swig himself. Teo frowned at him but motioned for all of us to drink as well.

I needed the alcohol just to get through this.

We had met around a table like this in many different places, from fancy hotels to run-down dive bars to multitudes of places in between. And we normally didn’t drink beer for breakfast.

Victor’s cat leapt on his shoulders, purring as she wrapped herself around his neck like a scarf.

“Before we start,” Teo said, taking a deep breath before he spoke. “I want to apologize about last night. I, uh, lost my head.”

“You don’t have to apologize to me,” Victor said, a smile in his voice. “It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”
