“The meeting can f-” I caught myself. “It can skip right off. I shouldn’t have agreed to it on our vacation, anyway. My kids are first priority.” Riley blinked at me. I’d never called them both “my kids” before. Right now, it just felt right. Our eyes met, and they held for a long time. I understood what I saw in them. Riley’s happiness, his gratitude, his excitement for the future.

Chapter 8
Riley
Islept a bit morewhile Brennan took care of Holden, but something woke me up. A fire in my belly, one that couldn’t be ignored. It wasn’t until late in the night when Brennan managed to get Holden to sleep. He put him to bed, and a night nurse took over his care so he could get some rest.
I overhead them talking, and he had just put on his pajamas and settled into bed when I awakened fully.
I stretched my arms over my head as my body came to life.
“I hate seeing my baby so sick, but damn, it’s good to know he’ll be alright. Thanks to you.”
Brennan shrugged. “I didn’t do anything special. Nothing any other parent wouldn’t have done.”
“Maybe not, but just the fact that you’re there for us, caring for us, taking control when we need you, making sure we have the best care...I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
He smiled softly. “It’s my pleasure, you know that. Now that we’re together, it’s my job.”
“I’m glad it’s your job to take care of me now.” My eyes became hooded and intense. “Because nowIhave the fever.”
“What do you mean?” He sat up in bed as scooted closer to him.
“I mean I want you, Brennan. I need you, now more than ever.” I climbed on top of the covers, slinking toward him on all fours.
I climbed onto Brennan, straddling him, and without ceremony, kissed him, forcing his lips apart so my tongue could enter. After, I only felt hotter. More desire, more need, more greed for my alpha’s body.
“What’s going on?” I mumbled against his lips. “I’m out of control.”
Brennan clenched his fists. “You have to stay in control. If you don’t, how can I? I’m a million times your size.”
My eyes roamed all over him. “I know. What else is a million times my size?” Brennan’s eyes widened. His nostrils flared.
