Ispun around in thatdirection. “Take me to him.” Brennan’s eyebrows raised. He wasn’t used to taking orders. I didn’t mean to, it was just that my omega instincts kicked in the moment I heard the baby crying. Thankfully, he only chuckled. “Right this way.”

He led me down a long corridor, at the end of which were the baby’s cries, getting louder.

I burst into the room like I owned the place, surprising a man in a pressed and pleated uniform who must have been tasked with watching him for now.

“Hi, I’m the new nanny.” I scooped the baby up from his crib and rocked him. He got louder, as if he was asking what took me so long.

“I know, I know,” I cooed. “I’m here now.” The baby, who looked to be about six months old and smelled like a bear cub, looked at me with sweet green eyes. He calmed down a little, but he still wanted to file his complaint. “If he was born addicted to heroin then he’s out of the NAS zone, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still experiencing some of the symptoms.”

“What’s that?” Asked the stern-faced lady, Diana, who seemed to be some sort of household executive.

“Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome,” I replied, rocking the baby and walking with them. “It’s when babies go through drug withdrawals, essentially.”

“You know about that,” Brennan said. His eyes twinkled.

“I learned about it in early childhood education, but I also had a client whose granddaughter was born addicted to opioids. It took months before the syndrome started to go away.” I looked around, seeing what I had within reach. “Can someone give me his binky? Do we have a cold teething ring? I don’t know if those will help, but they’re always worth a shot. I’m gonna hunker down and prepare for a long haul with this guy.” I unbuttoned the top few buttons of my dress shirt and pressed the baby’s face to my bare chest.

Brennan stared, eyeing the strip of bare skin. His predator gaze seemed hungry, and it send shivers down my spine. The shivers were from fear, because of how powerful he was both physically and professionally, but there was a tinge of something else there. Lust, desire, the animal in me waking up.

“I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m, uh, skin-to-skin contact helps.”

“I see,” Brennan said. Yeah, heseesliterally. His eyes lingered on my chest.

“Ahem,” Diana coughed, loud enough to wake the dead.

“What?” Brennan asked flatly, as if daring her to say something.

“Nothing, sir. You seemed to have gotten lost in your thoughts there for a second.”

He lifted an eyebrow at me, the corners of his lip tugging up. “I guess I did, huh?”Okay, seems we’re starting out hot.I didn’t want to deny that I already felt something for my boss of about an hour, but that was too dangerous of a game to play. Wasn’t it?

Someone produced a pacifier, which helped, but not by much. Brennan rested a big hand on the baby’s head. Although it practically covered it completely, the touch was tender. Now, Petey began to calm.

“Maybe that’s what it took,” Diana said. “The combined love and care of an O-Dad and an A-Dad. That’s what you both are to him now, for all practical purposes.”

“That’s true,” I said, ducking my head shyly. “I guess we need to do more of it.”

How could a man so huge have such a gentle touch? Would his touch be gentle on me, too? It’s Mister Brennan to you, best you don’t forget.I snapped myself out of it as Brennan spoke again.

“This is Petey. My nephew. My son, now.” Petey was an adorable baby, and I immediately fell in love with him.

“Aren’t you the cutest. I’m going to love you like my own, yes, I am.” Petey threatened us with a slight smile, but didn’t quite give it to us yet. “Almost,” I cooed.

“I want to be an involved A-dad. Spend quality time with him, watch him grow up. I always wanted a family. This is an expected way to get one, but I’m happy nonetheless. Isn’t that right, big guy?” This time, Petey smiled and flexed his fingers. Brennan smiled back at him, then at me. That had to be a good sign. It felt almost as good having Brennan smile at me as it did the baby. His scent was alluring, attractive, and the hormones advertised his excellent health and power. What a shock, considering that I was an absolute nobody compared to him. While it was paternal love and affection I felt for the baby, it was something else I felt for the new daddy.

My phone’s alarm blared in my handbag.Holden’s gonna have a fit if I’m late.

“I need to go get my son. You said it was okay for both of us to stay, right?”

“Of course. He’s welcome. As long as you’re taking excellent care of my nephew, you can do whatever you want.”

“Awesome. I need to go pick him up before my time’s up with the babysitter. I hate to ask, but is there a staff member or someone who can take over while I go grab him? It should take less than an hour, I hope.” I winced, hoping that amount of time wouldn’t piss off my new boss and make him think twice about hiring me. Instead of getting upset, he pulled out his phone.

“Where’s your son? I’ll send my car.”

“Send your car?”

He looked up, giving me a cheeky smile. “One of the perks of being a billionaire. I have lots of cars and lots of drivers. Just give me the address and give whoever’s watching him a head’s up.”
