Conor barks out a laugh and shakes his head as he runs his fingers through his hair.

“I’m not touching that one,” there’s a teasing note in his voice. “I don’t want you to feel the need to kill me.”

“Probably smart,” I confirm.

He gives me a chin lift before standing up and heading toward the door of my office. My mind is already swirling with all the possibilities, but none of them stick or make sense.

Conor reaches for the door handle but turns. “If Finn wants to fight again, what do you want to do?”

“Let him fight.”

The smile Conor flashes is so feral I’m a little surprised blood isn’t dripping from his lips. It’s been a little while since Conor has gotten in the ring. I have a feeling that won’t be the case for very much longer.

I don’t know why Cillian is interested in my business or why he, or Roisin’s family, would use her by putting her in my path, but I’m going to find out. She wasn’t willing to share yesterday, but I’ll get the answer from her.

Eventually.

Then I’ll make sure she knows her loyalty will always be with me.

She gives herself over to me and I’ll always give her what she needs, me included. Her rewards will be so great that she’ll be able to leave everything else behind.

Because there is no way I’m letting her go.

CHAPTER 7

ROISIN

My feet are aching. The bar wasn’t super busy tonight, but it still feels like I spent forever and a day on my feet. I don’t think I went soft after being off my feet for the day I allowed Declan to wrap me up in the cocoon of his world, but maybe I did. I don’t know, all I know is I am looking forward to heading home and putting my feet up.

Except when I step out of the back door of The Irish Rose, I recognize the man leaning against the sleek black car. He’s looking at me with curiosity written all over his face, but there’s no scorn there. I guess it’s a good thing; he could be judging me.

The last time he saw me I was straddling the lap of the man who employs him. His boss also had his fingers buried inside of my pussy and was making me come hard.

Yeah, a little judgement on this guy’s face would be totally warranted.

“Hi,” my voice is timid. I clear my throat and straighten my spine. The only way through this is to brazen it out. “I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name the last time we met.”

Much to his credit, he doesn’t smirk, even though he totally has the right to.

I’m glad it’s dark enough that it won’t be painfully obvious how much I’m blushing right now. At least, I hope.

It’s possible I passed right over brazen. Oh well, too late now.

“I’m Oscar, Miss,” his voice is neutral, much like the facial expression he’s wearing.

It should probably make me feel better, but it doesn’t. There’s only one reason this man is here right now and it’s because Declan expects him to pick me up and take me back to his house.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the house, and I love spending time with Declan, but I haven’t had enough time to put any of my walls back up. They’re all standing around me, rubble and debris, a testament to how weak and powerless I am when faced with Declan McCarthy.

I needed a little more time to build my defenses back up. Before Declan comes in and obliterates them again. I’m not naïve enough to believe it wouldn’t happen.

I was just hoping to have a little more time.

“It’s nice to meet you Oscar,” I murmur. I tilt my head to the side, “Let me guess, you’re not here to take me back to my place, are you?”

With his mask firm, nothing changes outwardly, but I can hear a hint of amusement in his voice, “You’ve guessed correctly, Miss.”

I nod slowly, wondering if I can get out of this while knowing I can’t. I should have packed a bag or something. It would have been smart. When I had to leave Declan’s place earlier, it was in his clothes. They were far too big and swallowed me, but I can’t say I was complaining.
