Anthony’s heart froze in terror. The sound of an electric hum reached his ears, followed by a loud thud as if a body had crashed on the floor.

They got him. Anthony tried to shout but failed. They fucking got him.

“Well,” Tobias said, “it seems that you have electrified my man. That was a tad extreme, don’t you think?”

“You want to be next?”

Oh, thank God.

“I’d rather not.”

“Is he in there?”

“Chris, you’ve come so far. Is it worth throwing it all away?”

“You think I care about that?”

“I do. I’m sure you’ve never felt more like you belong than in my club. There’s nothing in the world Anthony could possibly give you that measures up to what I can. You’re smart enough to see that.”

A moment of silence, enough time for Anthony to fear that Chris was about to choose the club over him.

“I’m asking one last time,” Chris said. “Is he in there?”

“See for yourself, you thickheaded man.”

Footsteps, the creaking of the door. Anthony’s sight was still useless, but he could tell Chris had entered the room, slowly walking toward the bed.

“Ant? Is he drugged?”

“No, just a bit dehydrated.”

“A bit? He needs an ambulance.”

“That would be unwise, and you know it. Take him if you must, but be discreet, or Iwillhurt you. Are you listening to me?”

“Yes. Just go away and let me sort this out. Don’t ever talk to us again.”

Tobias sighed. “Be damned, you two. A royal waste of my time this was.”

A minute later, Chris sat on the mattress. He carefully raised Anthony’s head and put something cold and wet to his lips. “Drink slowly.”

Anthony could have drunk a lake, but he had enough common sense to take in small gulps so he wouldn’t choke. The water flew down his throat, awakening parts of his body that had been switched off for days. This heavenly feeling would forever be imprinted in his mind. Nothing had ever felt so good.

“I’m going to take you out of here, okay?” Chris asked.

“Okay.”

He kissed Anthony’s cheek, breathing fast like he was fighting back tears. But there was no time for that; they had to get away before Tobias changed his mind.

“The infusion will make him feel better, but the most important thing is giving him food at a reasonable pace. Only soup or mashed vegetables for the next two days, then he can move to solids.”

“Okay.”

“Listen, he’s obviously been abused. I should report this.”

“With how much I’m paying—you won’t.”
