Daisy frowned. “I like adventures.”

“Good.”

“But I like home too.”

My belly tightened.

“I like when my uncles come for dinner. And when my daddy hugs me. And when Lola makes lasagna.” Daisy’s gaze met mine. “I love my bedroom, and when my daddy tucks me in at night and reads me a story.”

My heart squeezed. “That sounds pretty wonderful.” My mom hadn’t tucked me in. She’d just let me go to bed whenever I’d felt like it. I cleared my thick throat. “Okay. What do you want to learn to make next?”

Daisy smiled. “A bird!”

I ran through my entire repertoire of origami—except for the naughty ones I knew—by the time Colt returned. Lola was with him.

Daisy proudly showed Colt his bear-covered desk. I saw a muscle tick beside his eye, but his lips twitched. The little girl gave me a huge hug before she skipped off with Lola.

“Thanks for watching her,” Colt said gruffly.

“It’s a pleasure. She’s a good girl.” I picked up some balled-up paper from some of Daisy’s errors. I tossed them in the recycling box, and when I spun, I found Colt close behind me. Startled, I lost my balance and stumbled back.

I fell on my butt, and whacked my grazed elbow against the side of my desk.

“Ouch.” I cradled my arm to my chest.

“Macy.” He scooped me up like I weighed nothing.

My belly fluttered. “I’m okay. Just a klutzy moment.”

He set me down on my desk, and gently held my arm up, studying my elbow. “It’s bleeding again.” He sounded mad.

“My butt feels worse. It took the brunt of my fall today.”

His gaze dropped to my lower body, and a funny look crossed his face. “Don’t move.” He headed for the kitchen, coming back with the first aid kit again.

“I’m going to have to order some stuff to restock that,” I said.

Colt removed the bloody bandage from my elbow, face focused as he cleaned my graze. He leaned in close, and I breathed him in. That lime scent of his made me want a gin and tonic.

“There.” He pressed a fresh bandage against my graze.

“Thanks.”

He lifted his head and our gazes met. My chest felt tight, like a rubber band was pulling taut inside me. I watched as he lowered his head toward my elbow, and his lips brushed the bandage.

“Can’t have Daisy finding out I didn’t kiss your boo-boo.”

“That’s not where I want you to kiss me.” I froze. Oh God, had that really slipped out?

His blue gaze locked on mine, and I could barely breathe. His eyes were hot and turbulent.

I wasn’t sure who moved first. Colt stepped closer, and I widened my legs to make room for him.

Then his mouth was on mine.

He gripped the back of my neck, holding me tight as his mouth took mine. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. No, Colton Fury kissed exactly how I imagined he would—rough, bossy, hot.

His tongue stroked mine, and I gripped his arms and moaned. I was acutely aware of him: his touch, his taste, his bulk, his scent, and the scrape of his beard on my skin.
