“Need to move faster.” Beau grabbed a towel and slid through the ropes. “How’s Macy?”

“Fine. She’s bounced back.” I glared at the wall. It was covered in framed boxing photos. “She’s making cookies with Lola and Daisy.”

“Cozy.” Kav appeared, chugging back some water.

I squinted at the bottle. It was some sort of fancy Italian stuff. “Regular water not good enough for you?”

Kav smiled. “No.” He paused. “So, it’s her ex who’s doing the harassing?”

My shoulders tightened. “Looks that way. Reath called Vander Norcross to follow up on what this asshole was doing while he was in San Francisco. Turns out he was an asshole to other women too.” A muscle in my jaw ticked. “But he considers Macy his. The one who got away.”

Kav cursed. “He’s escalating.”

“Yeah. Reath is trying to track him down. I’ve made a few calls to my contacts to keep an eye out for him, but the guy isn’t from New Orleans, so it won’t be easy to find him.” My usual tricks for finding people included visiting friends and family, or surveilling people’s usual hangouts. I couldn’t do that with Warner. I turned to Beau. “The guy’s a PT. Thought you could put out feelers. I figured he might want to find a local gym to work out.”

Beau nodded. “Good idea. I’ll call around.”

“I’ll get you the asshole’s picture.” I dragged in a breath.

Kav slapped my shoulder. “We’ve got your back. We’re not letting Macy get hurt.”

I nodded. “How about a family dinner tonight? To take Macy’s mind off things. Unless you’ve got some fancy-ass date at some fancy-ass restaurant.”

“Or a meeting,” Beau said. “Kav’s always got a meeting.”

Kavner smiled. “Money doesn’t make itself, gentleman. I happen to take care of all your investments, and make a lot of money for you in the process.”

Kav had a brilliant, sharp brain. Thanks to him, I had a hell of a nest egg, and money for Daisy’s education. “All right, see you both later.”

“You think he realizes he’s gone over his pretty office manager?” Kav asked Beau, his expression smug.

“Nope,” Beau answered. “He’s too stubborn to admit it. Needs to spend some time in denial first.”

I stiffened. “I only have room in my life for Daisy. And Macy is my officeassistant.”

Kav laughed, low and smooth. “Funny how he keeps repeating these things, like if he does it enough, they’ll actually become the truth.”

Ignoring them, I turned and walked out.

“Then Colt proceeded to drink the entire pack of beer to prove Beau wrong,” Reath said.

Perched on my stool at the island, I grinned. “Then what happened?”

“He puked everywhere in the garden. Got his first taste of a hangover at fifteen.”

I laughed and looked at Colt standing beside me, holding a beer. He was scowling at his brother.

His gaze dropped to me, or more accurately to my mouth, and his scowl softened. “Never drank Budweiser again.”

I reached for a corn chip and dunked it in the guacamole. It was the best guac I’d ever tasted. Once again, Lola was the queen of good food.

The queen was currently moving around the large kitchen, humming to herself. She was making jambalaya, and it smelled so good. My mouth was watering.

Daisy was doing a craft on the rug in front of the television. She was studiously gluing feathers and sequins onto a glass jar. We hadn’t told Colt that it was the infamous swear jar. He’d find out soon enough.
