Her mouth dropped open. “Yes.”

Reath cursed. “Colt, I’m sorry. I saw the woman leave and Macy looked fine. When she headed into the kitchen, she was out of view, and I didn’t know anything was wrong.”

I nodded. “Reath, find that woman. I want her questioned.”

Reath nodded. “You got it, Colt.” He glanced at Macy. “She should go to the hospital.”

She shook her head. “No. I’m fine.”

“It’s standard after using an EpiPen,” Reath said.

Macy clung to me. “I don’t want to go. I really don’t like hospitals.”

I smoothed a hand down her hair. “Call Doc Hamilton. I’ll have her check Macy.”

“I’m all right—”

I scowled at her. “It’s not up for discussion.”

Her face pinched. “Colt—”

I gripped her chin. “You’re getting checked.Fuck.” I dropped my forehead to hers. I’d dropped the fucking ball. She could’ve died. If I’d been a few minutes later…

“Colt, I’m okay.” She kneaded my shoulders. “Look at me.”

I met her green gaze.

“I’mfine.”

I nodded. “You’re still getting checked out.”

She eyed me for a second. “Okay.”

I was pretty sure she was humoring me. I rose with her in my arms, and set her in her desk chair.

“Doc’s on the way,” Reath said, slipping his cellphone away. “Sorry, Colt. I didn’t think that woman was a threat.” Reath’s jaw was tight. “I won’t underestimate Warner again.”

“I didn’t think Warner would hurt Macy. This is my fuck up.”

Reath’s face hardened. “He’s continuing to escalate.”

Macy had almost died.

Emotion wrapped around my throat, squeezing tight. I turned and punched the wall. I left a hole in the drywall. Behind me, Macy gasped.

I punched it again.

Reath grabbed my arm. “Dial it down, Colt.” His voice was a low murmur.

“She nearly died.”

“She’s fine. Right now, she needs you to take care of her, not lose your shit.”

My body vibrated.

“Got a lock on it?” Reath asked.

I blew out a breath and nodded.
