I heard her suck in a breath, then she relaxed against me.

This. I wanted this. Not just the hot fucking. The quiet moments, too.

Damn. How had this happened?

My cellphone rang, and the James Bond theme song rang out.

“That’s Reath.”

Macy stepped back with a laugh. “I like the ring tone. Did he used to be a secret agent?” When I didn’t reply, her eyes widened. “Really?”

I pressed the phone to my ear. “Reath?”

“Hey,” my brother said. “I found the brownie woman. Her name’s Marsha Wade.”

My body locked. “Where is she?”

“At my office.”

“I’m on my way.” I turned the grill off.

“Colt?” Macy’s worried eyes met mine.

“Lunch will have to wait. Reath found the woman who came to my office with the brownies.”

Macy sucked in a breath.

“I’m going to question her.”

Macy straightened. “I’m coming, too.”

“No, stay here with Daisy.”

“Colt.” Her voice was firm, and she grabbed my arm. “This is my life, big guy. I’m coming.”

My hands flexed. Damn her for being so stubborn.

“Let me call Lola to take care of Daisy.”

After we dropped a sulky Daisy off to Lola, and I’d endured Daisy’s vocal protest about why she should come with us, we headed to PSS.

It was just a few warehouses down from my office, but bigger and slicker than mine. Reath employed a team of people with varied backgrounds.

I took Macy’s hand and squeezed it. Then I nodded at the young man at the desk. “Warwick.”

He nodded and smiled. “Hi, Colt. Go on up. Reath is waiting for you in the conference room.”

I lifted my chin and headed up the stairs. I saw Macy taking it all in.

“This place is shinier than I thought Reath would go for.”

She was right. This glossy office was just the front of PSS. Behind the scenes was where the real work happened, and there was far less gloss back there.

Through a glass wall, I saw Reath standing with his arms crossed over his chest.

There was a woman sitting at the long conference table who was fiddling with her big hair and shooting Reath a sulky glare that made me think of Daisy when I told her no.

I opened the door and ushered Macy inside. When the woman looked up, her face changed, and her mouth dropped open. She got what I guessed was a flirty look.
